I don’t hate, hate, but I get you. It’s mostly so darn boring! Why so many pages to tell such a simple story?

0
Jessica

Gods yes. I read Throne of Glass and rolled my eyes the whole time. I couldn’t believe the character at all. And ACOTAR was okay but still nothing to write home about.

0
Caroline

Jessica We will have to agree on disagreeing. Aslan of Narnia what an annoying fictional human being is Feyre? I have this violent tendencies when it comes to characters so darn boring such as her that makes me imagine me holding her from her legs and hitting a wall with her body. Just like the dormat(?) she seemed to me.

With ToG I’m not as much annoyed. Or, at least I wasn’t until half the second book. I’ll start the third soon enough which is supposed to be “better than the first two”. Considering they are the ones I actually liked, I believe I’m up to disappointment ?

0
Morgan

*Aslan.

0
Jessica

@Morgan Feyre was alright in the 1st and part of the 2nd book but gods was Wings and Ruin a hit mess.

0
Caroline

In Portuguese it was translated to “Aslam” so my corrector corrected² the “Aslan” I’d typed.

0
Caylynn

Absolutely horrible writing. I got 3/4 of the way through ACOTAR before giving up and my friends say the rest of the series sucks even more. And don’t even get me started on the atrocity that is Throne of Glass ??

1

Honestly, I’m finding It hard to get into the Harry Potter books, maybe because I watched the movies first I cant exactly get my own picture in mind which is one thing I really enjoy when reading

I tried reading them before I watched the movie and I couldn’t get into them

Skip to the third book. The first two are kid books.

@Erin I read up to the 4th book and I was still bored. Probably just gonna sit on my shelf cause they’re pretty

It takes about 100 pages to get really good, but after that it’s amazing. One of my favorite books. It’s always sad when others didn’t like one of your favorite books but that’s what is so fun about reading also. Everyone has their own unique tastes.

Harry Potter because while I enjoy her world building, her writing was meh. A lot of unfinished plots.

Also the City of Bones had a really ridiculously out of touch idea on teenagers.

Fifty Shades of Grey was just awful. Awful writing, awful story, awful characters. I like my smut well written.

1

Giac

In what way?

0
Linda

Best I can explain has to be with a spoiler.

Was it a recording? Someone writing a story? The last part just came out of nowhere for me.

0
Shannon

@Linda Ihad to read it a couple times but I do think they say it was a recording but they aren’t sure how she was able to do it. (I will have to double check though!)

2
Shannon

Linda Greene Okay I just checked. Cassette tapes! (Admittedly it is pretty buried in there and the flash forward is pretty random.)

Image may contain: text
0
Linda

That’s the part that confused me I think. I might end up having to borrow the book again and try reading it to see if things are clearer for me.

0
Shannon

@Linda it is pretty cryptic. I do remember reading that one chapter a few times to figure it out.

Basically they are reading a transcription of a tape. (This is the page before that where it explains a bit more.)

Yeah it’s classic Atwood though. She uses metafiction as a device a fair amount, most notably in The Blind Assassin, and if you’re not familiar with it as a device it absolutely will catch you off guard!

2
Linda

Yes first time reading anything like it.

1
Giac

Fair warning, it’s addictive. One of my absolute favourite literary devices.

1
Michaela

It’s because it was presented as a document, it’s not a story.
