Lolita. The prose is gorgeous, and Nabokov wrote it in English, which is VERY impressive!
The subject matter is, er, not for everyone…

I suspect that most people who say they “do not like” Lolita have never read it. I trust you know that Nabokov wrote several novels in English, including Ada, Transparent Things, Look at the Harlequins! and several others. Lolita, though–that’s probably his best book.

I’m actually not super familiar with Nabokov – I read Invitation to a Beheading in school (also very good, but very different) and then decided to try out Lolita. I started reading Ada but couldn’t get into it (which honestly may have been my own fleeting thoughts more than anything).

@Ted No, “Ada” is _hard._ It takes place in an alternate universe, with utterly different history and technology. Probably the most difficult of his novels to read.

Oh wow! It sounds interesting… maybe I’ll have to put that on my [absurdly long at this point] list.

I read an interesting book, “Reading Lolita in Tehran”, about a group of women in a repressed society reading the book and discussing it.

Book 1 of the Elsker Saga; my friends couldn’t get into it but I loved it xD . Some people say they didn’t like ACOTAR or it’s their least favourite in the series but, to me, it’s the best so far.
