@Nay I saw perhaps a BBC show done from her title “Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit” WAY many years back prior to the year 2005. Still imprinted in my memory. I had never heard of her before that and I’m a LIBRARIAN!!! So it made a HUGE impact on my thoughts about authors, literature etc
1) Approaching Eye Level, Vivian Gornick. 2) Burning The Days, James Salter. 3) On Writing, Stephen King. 4) Why Be Happy When You Could Be Normal?, Jeanette Winterson.
please look up the name Mukhtar Mai aka Muktahran Bibi. A memoir of an assault on a quiet Pakistani woman, then the local tribe leaders try to convince her to sign a blank sheet of paper so they can fill in a false description cancelling the accusations. She later won a small court case then USED that award money to establish a simple local school for girls in safety. Not a complex read nor lengthy. Amazing person. Deeply inspirational without any conceit. Title is In the name of honor BUT there are entirely unrelated books w same title or similar. Also be aware it was originally published French so there is also a co author’s name listed. Events were early 2000’s. I dont have the orig publish date nearby. Please DONT miss this inspirational work!!! Descriptions NOT GRUESOME of physical
