It takes a while to get into and for the plot to come together. I only really realised how much I love it when I was pretty much done with my first read-through ?
* The Sandman series by Neil Gaiman * The Amulet series by Kazu Kibuishi * The Bone series by Jeff Smith * Avatar the Last Airbender trilogies (The Promise, The Search, The Rift, Smoke and Shadow, & North and South).
@Aaron I never got into attack on titan. Some of my favorite mangas are Rurouni Kenshin, Black Cat, Full Metal Alchemist, and Fairy Tail to name a few.
Daytripper, Maus, Joe the Barbarian, Saga, Chew, Northlanders, Y: The Last Man, Sandman, Beasts of Burden, Magneto: Testament, Superman: Red Son, Batman: The Long Halloween (hesitant to post superhero stuff but the last three are standalone stories).
Are we distinguishing between original graphic novels, collections of works that were always intended to be finite, or just general collections?
Oh, to hell with it…Marvels, Astro City, Kingdom Come, Y: The Last Man, Sandman, Sandman Mystery Theatre, Fables, Maus, Watchmen, Tom Strong, Supreme, League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen, V for Vendetta, Watchmen,Terminal City, silver age Superman, bronze age Batman, Stan Lee’s Spider-Man (Ditko and Romita), Lee and Kirby’s Fantastic Four, Jack Kirby’s Fourth World epic, John Byrne’s Superman, Fantastic Four and X-Men run with Chris Claremont, Frank Miller’s Daredevil and Sin City, and Walt Simonson’s Thor.
I gave my copy of El Deafo to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Class summer school teacher before I read it. They loved it but now I need to get again for myself.
Hmm I like non fiction graphic novels mostly: Petrograd by Phillip Gelatt, The Death of Stalin and Death to the Tsar by Fabien Nury are really good. I’m also a big Brian Michael Bendis fan, specifically Torso, Goldfish and Jinx. And last but certainly not least, if you want a 1960’s house wife moonlighting as a bad ass assassin I highly recommend Lady Killer by Joelle Jones

I’m 24, so I’m cleared for the “porn pictures”. Everyone I know who reads Saga is an adult, I definitely wouldn’t say it’s for kids. I think the story line is important and the illustrations are beautiful.
Okay and teens are watching Game of Thrones. Doesn’t mean it is meant for them… graphic novels aren’t synonymous to comic books, just like YA Fiction isn’t synonymous to fiction.
I love the Modesty Blaise books by Peter O’DOnnell, not sure if they count, as they were originally comic strips, one a day in the Evening Standard, used to take about four months to read a complete story.
Blankets by Craig Thompson I read this when I was in highschool
just read that for my 50/50 list. It was pretty good
V for Vendetta. And Watchmen of course.
The Sandman
Tried that once. Couldn’t get into it.

@Viktoria I’ll give it a try! I’ve loved other Gaiman books. I think the art might’ve been part of why I couldn’t get into it.
The art isn’t great but the tale is beyond epic
Y the Last Man
Loved it! Can’t wait for the show!
Saga!
Love it! Working my way through it now
Bitch Planet, Saga, Descender, Harrow County
A few:
* The Sandman series by Neil Gaiman
* The Amulet series by Kazu Kibuishi
* The Bone series by Jeff Smith
* Avatar the Last Airbender trilogies (The Promise, The Search, The Rift, Smoke and Shadow, & North and South).
Hark , a Vagrant.
The Tea Dragon Society
The Silence of our Friends
I’ve only read Ghost World, but it was great!
Do mangas count?
I’m not a fan, but sure!
I wish Attack on Titan would just wrap up. I mean, c’mon, it’s time to get into Eren’s basement. Seriously.
@Aaron I never got into attack on titan. Some of my favorite mangas are Rurouni Kenshin, Black Cat, Full Metal Alchemist, and Fairy Tail to name a few.

Another one for Saga!
I gave up on Saga by book 4 got fed up with all the porn pictures that they are showing our teens.
I’m 24, so I’m cleared for the “porn pictures”. Everyone I know who reads Saga is an adult, I definitely wouldn’t say it’s for kids. I think the story line is important and the illustrations are beautiful.
@Laura you do realize that graphic novels are meant for adults?
Let me rephrase that. This graphic novel and many others are meant for adults.
@Everett teens are reading them
Okay and teens are watching Game of Thrones. Doesn’t mean it is meant for them… graphic novels aren’t synonymous to comic books, just like YA Fiction isn’t synonymous to fiction.
Anything by Brian K Vaughan. Seriously. Also Mays, The Dark Knight Returns, Preacher. Black Hole, Habibi, and Blankets are also fantastic

I love the Modesty Blaise books by Peter O’DOnnell, not sure if they count, as they were originally comic strips, one a day in the Evening Standard, used to take about four months to read a complete story.
Saga
I’ve only ever read History of Violence by John Wagner.
Jacquelyn Frank’s Nightwalker Series. Awesome reads
