Ooh this could get controversial!! I have to admit the Reacher movies are a guilty pleasure, purely because Tom Cruise is almost exactly the opposite to what Reacher should be like!!

If tv adaptations are also ok to add, I really loved Case Histories and Bosch, both very true to the books I thought. And I really can’t wait for the Cormoran Strike series, the cast look perfect!

Stephen King novels seem to translate to the big screen very well. Aside from Shawshank, Stand by Me and Misery are both excellent adaptations.

I’ve always wished someone would make The Talisman into a film!

Hunger Games, which was a surprise to me too because a) I don’t normally like that genre and b) I’m usually not a fan of movies that are taken from books. The book is always a million times better in my opinion.

The Hunger Games took me by surprise as well. The books were well written and the story pulls you in from the get go. However I have yet to make it through any of the movies.

Gone girl. Normally I hate books to film, but the author wrote the screen play so stayed true to the original.

If I read a book I won’t watch the film. If I watch a film won’t read the book. Rosemary’s Baby I read as a teen, many years later it was on TV. Film missed out chunks and bore no resemblem to the book

I remember seeing the film of My Sister’s Keeper and getting really annoyed that they’d just totally switched the ending around, it’s the last time I can think of where I strongly disliked an adaptation!

I am so glad you posted. I read the book recently. I then happened to catch the end of the film on tv last week. Totally different ending.

And finally, I’ve not read the book but I thought Pride and Prejudice and Zombies was superb, it had so many nods to the BBC adaptation of the original, one of my absolute favourites!

Among ones already stated here, I thought Stephen King’s THE STAND was an absolutely great mini series! The book is one of the best books I’ve ever read.
Also good books to movie are Dennis Lehane’s MYSTIC RIVER and SHUTTER ISLAND

All of the June Austen adaptations, even the dotty American version of P+P starring Green Garston and Laurence Olivier. Costumes, acting, set – they usually get at least one of them right. Maybe my favourite is the Mansfield Park version with Anna Massey as horrid Aunt Norris. But I once lived in Portsmouth so I may be prejudiced.
