I agree with Ashlie Smith on both of her mentions, and also add “A Checklist for Murder, a true story of Robert John Peernock” by Anthony Flaccid. It’s a narrative of a most bizarre sort of a murderer. The trial itself stirrs a most unusual response from the accused.

Helter Skelter is an older book, but I learned a lot about this notorious cult and it’s leader, Charles Manson.

Ann Rule is great for that. My favorite is Helter Skelter by H. Bugliosi.
