following! i love westerns so much!
I’ve listened to a lot of these stories but I now want more of a book rather then a short story. These stories are good if you are going on a long trip and want to pass the time.
Might not be quite what you are looking for, but I quite enjoyed Black Storm Comin’. It evolves around the pony express.

True Grit
I liked The Sisters Brothers, Patrick Dewitt.
More YA than western but Rae Carson’s The Gold Seer trilogy takes place during the California gold rush.
