The first ten Xanth books by Piers Anthony.. his puns are hilarious, but after awhile, the series got boring. I also would like to reread for the first time, the Ballad series by Sharyn McCrumb, and the JoBeth Siddon series by Virginia Lanier..starts with Death in Bloodhound Red.
That one popped into my mind too. I just recently reread it for the first time since high school. It had been so long, it WAS almost like reading it the first time. I was amazed at how much I loved it all over again. And while I love the film, the book included details about some of the side characters in the film, that the movie left out.
@Vicki I had such a visceral reaction to the story. I could not stop reading. And when I turned the last page I cried and opened right back up to the first chapter so I could read it again. I have taught this book multiple times and I always kearn something every time I read it. It’s a beautiful, beautiful atory.
All the Harry Potter books, The Girls by Lori Lansings, Molokai by Alan Brennert, Doomsday by Connie Willis, and The Brave by Nicolas Evans (NOT Nicolas Sparks). These are just a few.
Hahaha! It’s just that the difference in the level of writing is so vast. Sparks is fine as a light, predictable read, but Evans writes on a level of deepness and meaning that makes each of his books a memorable experience.
The Graveyard Book by Gaiman, Mort by Pratchett, Sahara by Cussler (this book was so much fun … the first time.), Love in the Time of Cholera by Marquez.
Interview With a Vampire – Anne Rice, Sophie’s Choice – William Styron, Sarah’s Key – Tatiana de Rosnay, Salem’s Lot or The Shining – Stephen King, Dogs of Babel – Carolyn Parkhurst, All The Bright Places – Jennifer Niven, and my fave youth book…Misty of Chincoteague – Marguerite Henry
How did you like Sarah’s Key? I read the English translations and thought that the story was lacklustre, so didn’t bother reading the original French. I loved the movie more… and have you read de Rosnay’s other works, yet?
Definitely the Harry Potter series.
That is the first thing I thought of too!
