I have 1 of his books but it seems to be book 2 of the Alex Cross series and I’m not sure if they should be read in order or can be read as stand alone novels/individually

There is a thread that runs through the series. Read them in order.

Diane

Some of his series should have ended sooner.

Like Maximum Ride!

Diane

@Mikki I never finished it, like the house of night series, I stopped reading because I didn’t want to wait for more meanless books especially when it could have ended sooner.

But I still love the first three.

1
Mikki

@Diane yup! First three were great! I’ve read to the end of ‘Nevermore’ and it was shitty. That was supposed to be the end, then a few years later he did ‘forevermore’ and I haven’t even considered reading it

I used to read his books. Need to revisit them again.

Can’t get into them. A pity as there’s a few months of reading there…
But Richard North Patterson. Now his books are I love. American Legal political.

He uses ghost writers. Personally, this bothers me.

Is that why they feel disconnected even when they are in a series??

1
Diana

Possibly. He uses different ones so they aren’t always continued by the same person. 15 books a year? Lol

This explains so much

I liked some of his Maximum Ride and Daniel X books but other than that I’m not a super fan. It has nothing to do with him, I’m just not into crime stories. My parents on the other hand love his books. My mom is slowly getting through his Alex Cross series and she’s loving it.

I’m with you. Loved his older ones (he was only author). One of the reasons I don’t rush out to buy his books any more. But I love what he does for schools and independent bookstores.

Factory-like assembly-line stories, with razor-thin plots and small characters. :):):)

Toilet paper.

He’s is not a genuine writer. He uses ghost writers and puts his name on the cover. Taking credit for other people’s work. He’s a fake and a fraud

This doesn’t make sense…why is he getting credit for a book if he didn’t write it?

0
Christian

It makes total sense. His name is pretty much a household name by now. He doesn’t have to do a thing, other unknown writers do the work they put his name on the cover and the ghost writer gets some of the earnings and the rest go to James Patterson for doing nothing.

I’ve read a book of his that I really liked from his Cross detective series. And I read his recent book called “Invisible” that I didn’t like at all. I’m going to be reading more of the Cross novels and I’m gonna give the Women’s Murder Club a try, too. He’s pretty good.

I like his books. Very entertaing yet he has fell into a spell of formulaic safe novels. I don’t like how he has become a brand as well.

Love love love!! Suspenseful and I love how the chapters are short so you can just blow through them!

Don’t let the ghost writer or those things get in the way of the writing! In my opinion, the the art is what matters not the life of the artist ?

I enjoy the short chapters too. My ADHD is terrible so focusing on reading for a long time can be too much. Long chapters are tough on me. The short chapters mean that I can pick it up and get through a few without feeling lost or stuck in the middle.

1
Sara

Same here! 1 downfall… when I want to go to bed but I keep doing that “just 1 more chapter” through like 7 of them lol

First 3 Maximum Ride books are good, after that they are crap. The 8th was supposed to be the last, then a few years later he released another and I haven’t read it because it just got so bad.

Daniel X is okay, same with Witch and Wizard.

I find him to be very arrogant, though

So, he used to be my favorite author. But i started to get frustrated when he co authored so much because his style was no longer apparent. I eventually stopped reading his “work” altogether when the chapter books started getting cranked out. I felt insulted.
