I don’t know how I missed the Green Rider series for so long. I read up to the third or fourth book, and my library didn’t have it so I stopped. I’ll have to check out the Witches of Eileanan, since I like your other favorites.

1
Melissa

I still need to read Mirror Sight and Firebrand still. But I feel lucky to have found the Green Rider series early on.

The Princess and the Goblin by George MacDonald. Don’t you dare watch the stupid animated movie…don’t.

Patricia

@Ellen I saw that cartoon as a child and tbh I loved it. I still haven’t read the book, though it’s on my tbr.

1
Ellen

The movie is barely like the book. Sorry for my visceral words. It is such a wonderful book I felt insulted by the movie. It’s been so long that I don’t remember all the specific
Objections. Read it and others by him.

Anna

The Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss, the Six of Crows duology by Leigh Bardugo, the Infernal Devices trilogy by Cassandra Clare, and the Shades of Magic trilogy by V. E. Schwab

JoshQuestion author

@Anna I want to read all these apart from Cassandra Clare she’s more my girlfriend’s sort of author.

0
Anna

@Josh Cassandra Clare is kind of a comfort read author for me when I’m feeling like cheesy over the top drama and romance. She’s definitely not for everyone. But for fans of high quality adult fantasy the Kingkiller Chronicles are my number one recommendation. Those books are total perfection.

@Troy I loved them it’s just the last quarter of the core seemed rushed, I will still get the new demon cycle books that start to come out next year

0
Jess

I agree the last quarter of The Core felt rushed, but it was a fitting ending.

Loved the magic system in it. I’m an artist and just the thought of doing magic with color seemed brilliant ?

0
JoshQuestion author

@Christian I am too. it was great I’ve heard the lightbringer series by Brent weeks has a magic system based on colours

0
Christian

Yes it does. It’s different though. I tried reading the first book in the series a few times but I just couldn’t get into it. Maybe the writing style. I didn’t relate to any character. The magic system was difficult to understand. I don’t know. Maybe I didn’t give it enough of a chance.

Fantasy is not normally what I gravitate to, but my husband dearly loves Terry Goodkind’s Sword of Truth novels, so I’m currently reading Wizard’s First Rule for him. Anyone else read and enjoy them?

2
Reply
Patricia

I liked Wizard’s First Rule, but really anything past the third book was more disappointing than anything. A good 20% or more of the books can literally be skipped, since it’s repeatedly describing the same action practically verbatim every time. He’s written a lot of books in that world, though, so there’s a lot to read if you like him. I recently picked up his latest release, and I wouldn’t recommend it if you like any kind of depth to your story.
