Me too. Sometimes I stay in the car when I get to my destination just to keep listening. Lol. I guess that’s the equivalent to I can’t but this book down.
They’re fabulous. I listen all the time, whether it’s because I’m travelling or because I’m shopping or when I’m crocheting. It’s a great way of being able to read a book whilst getting on with other things.
Audible books are audio books. Voice recording of someone reading a book out loud. If you have a good narrator and a good story then it can be enjoyable/statifying
I’ve not yet gotten into audible books. I don’t really like paying for things. So, mostly I’ve been into the free podcasts: Myths and Legends, The New Yorker, The Horror, Noir Factory, The Story Collider, Science Friday, and The Moth, regularly supply me with mostly fiction and some non fiction. I haven’t gotten into actual books yet.
@Steven have a look into what’s available through your local library. No cost yo borrow audio books in their catalogue. I use BorrowBox, but there’s others.
I tried audible while I fenced my field and plowed my driveway but I just can’t get into it. I have listened to audiobooks before while sewing and enjoyed it
Man I’m loving audible lately! I still read physical books at night and first thing in the morning, but now I listen to audiobooks when I drive to work, doing housework, or working out. I just finished Wild by Cheryl Strayed, and I loved it! It’s about a 26 year old girl that was really close to her mom, and her mom suddenly died of cancer and she fell into a downward spiral ened up divorced and started using heroin. Then one day she seen a book for this hiking trail called The Pacific Crest Trail, it’s a trail that goes over the mountains from Mexico all the way through California, Oregon, and Washington. She set out alone with no hiking experience and hiked over 1100 miles. It was an amazing book, and it seriously got me wanting to hike lol. Check it out, I guess they even made a movie about it starring Recce Witherspoon. https://amzn.to/2SKwwWn
@KiKi it’s legit! It’s really sad when she goes over losing her mother, but it’s a really amazing story. I don’t think i could have hiked over those mountains, and I hunt, fish, hike and camp. And she did it all by herself. Really inspiring, and let’s you know we can do anything if we have the will to see it through to the end!
Audiobooks are awesome. If you unsubscribe before the trial period ends they give you a discount for the first 3 months. Also it’s a good idea to check if your local library has an electronic library like libby or overdrive (same service different app) or something local.
Tried my ‘first one ever’ a couple days ago. The narrator threw me, since he didn’t ‘sound’ like the character I had read in the first book. I will try again!
I Listen to books I’ve loved while doing something else as a way to relax. If driving, I don’t get distracted. If falling asleep, it doesn’t matter when I drift off. If cleaning, I can lose my place and quickly pick it up again. I recently cancelled my Audible membership because I had all the books I wanted.
I’ll admit that I am not a huge fan of audiobooks but they do serve a purpose, people do love them.
I prefer to read. Yesterday I listened to four chapters of Minette Walters’ The Last Hours ( while working) and I cannot not tell you what the heck happened in those four chapters. I think it’s because I was reading emails and doing a thousand things at once – music is better in that case. With Audiobooks I always find myself rewinding to the beginning and starting over – I get frustrated and eventually decide to buy the book. I haven’t given up on them ( after learning the entymology from a fellow bibliophile – I have to try ) but I think I’ll try listening again during a long drive.
Good question. Audible is a audiobook service. Lots of people enjoy listening to books because: they have a long commute, have learning disabilities, get migraines or try and squeeze reading in with a quick minute.
A recording of a book you listen to
They are still enjoyable because it’s still the same story, just goes in my brain through my ears instead of my eyes. A movie still plays in my mind.
I like listening to a book while driving – better than anything on the radio
Me too.
@Mike me three
@Mike me four

So it means it’s worth a try?
@Samita absolutely!

And they’re satisfying in exactly the same way a physical book is. Reading.n
I use overdrive through my local library. Nice free service
@Saharsh
I’m an addict. I use Libby and Hoopla (free library apps) and Scribd and Audible.
Some of them are really good with the right person reading them ? I use overdrive through my library so its free?

They are things that make cleaning, walking, exercising, and houswork bearable.

I go to the library and borrow the books on cd.
The audio books are beneficial to those who have a vision impairment.

I’m currently listening to one and it’s amazing
I listen to them while cleaning or driving on a long trip in the car.

@Eric that is so true! I am always in the market for an inspiring read. Thanks for sharing!!!
I need to try audible books again. I tried a while back & it just wasn’t the same to me. Maybe it depends on what I’m doing while listening.
They satisfy me, all right.
This one is literally making me LOL!!!!

I gave up on them because I couldn’t concentrate,but I love Book at Bedtime on Radio 4 BBC
I refuse to pay 15 dollars to buy a book
I use overdrive.

Great in the car
Addicting and amazing

Sister’s hubby listens to them while doing yard work.
If you are visually impaired they are free through the Library of Congress.
@Maureen no I’m not but thank you all the same?
You all have been very helpful. Thank you. And I think I’ll give it a try especially while doing exercise. Thanks for sharing your thoughts ?
An audio book is all about the narrator. I listened to Sophie Kinsella’s book and the narrator was hilarious!
