@Donna issue is I buy mine from various different places ie. worldofbooks, works, amazon and charity shops but I keep doubling up ?

1
Gillian

@Laura I use notes on my phone but that only works for series not random books so I buy duplicates as well sometimes.

1
LauraQuestion author

@Gillian oh well they must be really good books if we end up buying them twice ??

Gillian

@Laura if only!

Goodreads. You could always download the app on your phone. If you are out and about check your phone as to whether you already have it. Same with buying from other places online.

@Gary I’ve just downloaded this app but I’m just seeing books and info about them. Am I doing something wrong?

0
Gary

Depends what you want to use it for really. I scan in all books that I own or have read to avoid buying duplicates.

1
Rachel

@Gary ok so I scan books in, thanks

1
Gary

@Rachel no worries. Hope it’s useful for you

If you buy a book from Amazon and you have already bought it they will tell you and also the date purchased.

99% of the time, yes; have had it happen twice now, though, that when the ASIN/ISBN # changes it will NOT be recorded that you bought that title. For Kindle titles, anyway.

Goodreads, but also a spreadsheet on which I can put all sorts of info.

I keep a spreadsheet showing all, indicating if read, tbr and pre ordered. Usually works!

@Ayo how does that work for eBooks such as Amazon?

Sue

amazon as when you go to re purchase it will tell you if you already purchased that book

I am not sure because my Ebooks are on my Kindle app and Amazon normally tells you if you already have the book. I am not really an Ebook reader. I have more physical books (2000 plus at last count) than I have Ebooks.

@Margaret, it is so easy to set up and you can add notes, move the book from one library to another if you have filed it wrong and you can also manually put the info in which is brilliant as I gave some books that are so old they don’t have ISBN numbers.

I much prefer physical books too.

I just use a pen and note book and write them down. If im out andsee a book i take a picture and double check first.

OMG, I’d need a wheelbarrow to carry all the notebooks! 🙂

I get mine from Amazon to my Kindle and they always tell me if I have previously bought it

I have this problem too, what gets me everytime is when they change the cover..

1
Reply
Sheila

or like the Marnie Hammond series when they change the title of the books

0
Sara

@Sheila oh no, that’s far too annoying. I’ve had that before when you think it’s a new title, you buy it and think you read this before and then find out it’s been retitled.

0
Sheila

yes luckily it said it was books 1&2 of the series and I knew i had read them

I use a bookshelf! Sorry that’s rude but I couldn’t resist it. For my academic books I use endnote that not only does all the filing and searching but also plugs into ms word
