What type of abuse?
I’m not feeling very picky. I’m just looking for books with a much more serious tone and message.
Girl in Pieces by Kathleen Gasglow is pretty good. It’s a book with a serious tone.
about 2 runaways from an abusive foster home.

Oh, there’s also Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. She actually had a few books that are more serious.

“A Child Called ‘It'” by Dave Peltzer based on a true story…. WARNING!!!! If you are anything like me,you’ll probably cry a little bit.
When Kambia Elaine Flew In From Neptune by Lori Aurelia Williams
This is aimed at 12-18 year olds but honestly I feel like the content was really graphic for that age group. It’s mostly about domestic and sexual abuse.

Bleed Like Me by Christa Desir, Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma, It Was You by Ashley Beale, Drowning Instinct by Ilsa J. Bick, If You Find Me by Emily Murdoch, Split by Swati Avasthi, Don’t Breathe A Word by Holly Cupala, Unbeautiful series by Jessica Sorensen, The Coincidence series by Jessica Sorensen, What We Saw by Aaron Hartzler, Exit, Pursued By A Bear by E.K. Johnston, Wash Me Away by Wendy Owens, and Trigger by Susan Vaughn. This is the topic I read the most of.
Sara Zarr’s Gem & Dixie does a really good job exploring the consequences of parental neglect.
