Misery, Gerald’s Game, or maybe Dolores Claiborne. I would not suggest starting with one of his super long books if you have never read anything of his.
Well, I am currently reading The Green Mile. That would be a good place to start. It’s one of his more gentle stories, apart from one particular scene. Cool book. But there are many excellent Stephen King novels. The Shining was the first one I read.
The shining or salems lot. The stand is awesome but a long read so better to be 2nd or 3rd. The dead zone or misery are good options too. Best to start w his older books to get a real feel for him, then move forward.
Firestarter is an all-time favorite of mine, as well as Hearts of Atlantis, Thinner, Odd Thomas (the series), Pet Cemetery, IT, The Cell, and The Mist are good, too. It depends on what you’re looking for.
Green Mile is good, so is Duma Key. It really depends on what kind of books you like. Some of his books like Green Mile or Gunslinger aren’t scary at all. Some like Duma Key and Under the Dome have the creepy factor without being horrifying. Then the truly scary ones like It. My first was Under the dome.
I’ve only read 2 of his books and I can’t read anymore. They’re scary and keep me up all night long. Pet Cemetary & It. I wish I could read more of his books cause he is a Master in storytelling ??
Carrie
Shining or Salem’s lot
Christine, Tommy knockers , Needful Things and of course It.
Carrie
The Stand if you like long books or Salem’s Lot!! Carrie was his first commercial book success so also a good place to start.
Joyland
Mine was Pet Semetary when I was a teen and it hooked me on him instantly
The Green Mile or the Shining
Definitely Pet Semetary
Bag of bones. It’s his best book, I have read all of his books and that’s the only one I liked.
The Shining.
I will mostly say The Shining so that you can jump into its sequel, Dr. Sleep, that was equally incredible.
11/22/63 is really good.

Start with Carrie. It’s a great story and a ton shorter than some of his more giant tomes!
I would start with the Stand.
Different Seasons. not explicitely horror, but his best writing as far as im concerned
The Stand.
Firestarter will be a good one to start off with
Dr sleep is good.
The stand, unless you like horror go with it but honestly the movie does it better
