Try Graceling, Fire and Bitterblue by Kristin Cashore. The 3 titles are in order for the series 🙂

Mistborn, Brandon Sanderson.

Couldn’t disagree more. Vin is a whining child who lets her teenage infatuation get in the way of her mission. Doesn’t mean the books aren’t good just not a strong female lead.

Vin turns into a seriously bad-ass warrior. 🙂 But I would not call her “brutal”.

If you don’t mind starting a series that isn’t finished, I’d recommend Red Sister by Mark Lawrence. Nona is the main character and she is the epitome of badassery. ?

So caveat, this series is sci-fi not fantasy, but the Honor Harrington series by David Weber. First book is “On Basilisk Station.”

Anthony Ryan’s Draconis Memoria. Strong female lead and strong female supporting characters. Plus a great story ?

I enjoyed this one. Lead isn’t very strong or badass at the beginning but as the story progresses she gets tougher and by book 2 she’s a badass.

Rae Carson has two trilogies with strong female leads – one trilogy starts with “The Girl of Fire and Thorns” and the other with “Walk on Earth a Stranger” ☺️. I can recommend both.

Surprised it hasn’t been mentioned, yet, but:
Best Served Cold by Joe Abercrombie

It’s listed as book 4 in the series, but it’s really a standalone. It’s basically the medieval fantasy version of Kill Bill.
