I had that problem but decided to not stress on it. As long as buying books isn’t have a big impact financially than it’s ok to buy books.

Books are so good for you and the way I figure how many I have on the shelf is that number minus what I usually read in one year. That’s usually enough to make me not worry so much. I don’t keep my books after I read them, I donate them or give them to friends or family. The only books I keep are cookbooks.

I just quit trying to fight the urge to buy more. It was a losing battle. ?

I’m working on my TBR due to a move. Plan on getting a chunk done so I can buy more after we settle. And it will technically be less books to move if I wait til after to buy some

Stop fighting the urge. It’s a battle, you’ll never win! ??‍♀️ Trust me I’ve tried ?. What I do is rotate my TBR shelf. I’ll read a book off my TBR shelf and replace it with a new one I’ve bought. The ones I’ve read I’ll donate if I don’t want to keep them and the new ones I keep on shelves in a closet. (So noone sees my drug addiction ?❤️??)

I’ve tried fighting it but I can’t help myself. My husband gets so mad at me and says read the ones you have. I say well stop buying old cars and car parts and then we’ll talk,

Maybe you could reward yourself, like, for every five books you read from your TBR, you can buy one, or one for every three read, if you don’t want to do five. Or perhaps you could count each page you read as a penny towards a new book, or give yourself 1 of your currency £/$/€ (or whichever) for every book you read to spend on a new book. Alternatively, you could treat yourself to a new book every month. Or you could treat yourself to a copy of a book you’ve already read and know you love (so it’s not an addition to your TBR). Another idea is to see if the library has any of the books you want and just order from there. I know how you feel. I’m trying to tackle my TBR too, and have been tempted a few times. I’ve managed to resist so far, and am doing reasonably well with reading my owned books. Don’t be too hard on yourself. Good luck 🙂

I’m horrible with this! I have soo many books that I want that I’ve been buying from thriftbooks and Deseret Industries. I also have a monthly subscription to book of the month and bookcase.club. I have around 30 books on my tbr shelves and some of those are books that are a part of a series and I tell myself that I can’t read them until I have the full series. It’s a serious struggle!! ??
I bought 5 books yesterday from the D.I., got home and purchased 7 more from thriftbooks cause I didn’t realize one of the books from the D.I. was part of a series. ??

There is no help in afraid. Your doomed lol the tbr is asking you to read them but I’m afraid the new books are crying out to be apart of them. Oh wait….. I’m meant to be supportive….. Erm, it will be fine. You’ll get through the tbr list with no glare from the new books…… Happy reading ?

Go to a quiet safe place. Sit still and breath deeply. Then go to the bookstore.

Our desire is to read

So, find your favorite reading spot, take a book with you, sit quietly, take a few minutes to imagine a bookstore.

Let out a big sigh, and plunge into that book.

You can get to the bookstore later. But you’ll enjoy reading.

You’ll enjoy reading a lot!

I utilize the library a lot! If I start a book and love it either instantly or when I’m done, then I go buy it. Although there are some that are by favorite authors that I will just go get. Anything in a series is an automatic. That way I don’t end up with more than I can handle in my home library.

I sample to chapter 10. I figure that’s a good point, especially since some books do take a bit to ramp up. There are quite a few I’ve stuck through that I’m so glad I did. But I usually know right away if it’s something I want for my own collection. I bought the entire box set of the lunar Chronicles after only getting to page 2 in cinder. Definitely worth it.

Before we moved I checked out over 300 books. Of those 300 I ended up only liking 10 of them. Really glad I hadn’t spent the money on all the other ones.

Kurio Reaper my daughter read the lunar chronicles series, she spent her allowance and babysitting to get them. And she said I HAVE to read them! ? they are on my TBR for this year. I am the same way, if I got everything I read I wouldn’t have enough room in my house to keep them all. ?
I try to give it 100 pages or to the end of that chapter and make a decision too many books to read one your not enjoying.

Read one, buy one, read one, buy one. If you have a half price books, go through your books and sell any books you no longer want to read. Then use the credit to reward yourself!

@Michele I love thrift books! I have never sold them there. If it is one I don’t want to keep we have a local used book store that I will go trade out with. I price shop as far as online with ThriftBooks, BookDepository and Amazon. Who ever has it cheaper new or used is where I get it. Lol if I’m getting new it usually amazon. Unless it is an exclusive, like one coming out in May, called Finale. (Getting that from BN.)
