WHY AM I JUST NOW FINDING OUT ABOUT THIS?!!!!! The Chemist Overview: In this gripping page-turner, an ex-agent on the run from her former employers must take one more case to clear her name and save her life.

She used to work for the U.S. government, but very few people ever knew that. An expert in her field, she was one of the darkest secrets of an agency so clandestine it doesn’t even have a name. And when they decided she was a liability, they came for her without warning.

Now she rarely stays in the same place or uses the same name for long. They’ve killed the only other person she trusted, but something she knows still poses a threat. They want her dead, and soon.

When her former handler offers her a way out, she realizes it’s her only chance to erase the giant target on her back. But it means taking one last job for her ex-employers. To her horror, the information she acquires only makes her situation more dangerous.

Resolving to meet the threat head-on, she prepares for the toughest fight of her life but finds herself falling for a man who can only complicate her likelihood of survival. As she sees her choices being rapidly whittled down, she must apply her unique talents in ways she never dreamed of.

In this tautly plotted novel, Meyer creates a fierce and fascinating new heroine with a very specialized skill set. And she shows once again why she’s one of the world’s bestselling authors.

Only reason I didn’t read her books was because I have a hard time with first person narration and dislike romance.

I love her but she kinda makes me mad. Twilight was amazing and I was really looking forward to Midnight Sun. Unfortunately, someone leaked the book and she decided not to finish it.
I can understand her being upset but it felt like she was punishing all of her fans, not just the ones who leaked it.
Then, E.L. James wrote Fifty Shades of Grey and she was angry because it was originally Twilight fanfiction. She said she would never read it. Personally, I thought she would have been happy that her work inspired others.
Then she got really upset when E.L. James released Grey, Christian’s version, said she had been considering finishing Midnight Sun but changed her mind when she saw that.
I really, really, really loved Twilight and she’s an amazing author but I don’t think I’ll be buying any more of her novels.

@Sarah at least she didn’t sue James when she easily could have. It’s one thing to inspire others and another to have them profit of your own hard work and ideas.

Sarah

Handsome, possessive guy, with a dark secret, who falls for a clumsy, young, pretty girl? It’s not a new concept, it sounds like your typical romance novel. I mean I didn’t read about anyone sparkling or sucking blood in Fifty Shades. However, if she thought that she had a case against E.L. James, by all means, she should have followed through on it. I just think that she’s punishing the rest of her fans for something that we had no control over and I think that sucks. If she wasn’t going to finish Midnight Sun, that’s fine, but to come out and say that she was planning to finish it but then changed her mind because Grey was coming out? Why bother saying anything at all then? Felt like the was teasing us. Not cool. That’s just my opinion, I’m not saying you have to agree.

I enjoyed the Twilight series when it first released… I was 17, from a small southern town, and a dreamy romantic.

Fast-forward through some hard lessons in my twenties and I realize how damaging books like these can be to justify behavior I would not accept now. I’m not hating on her for it, a lot of people think the relationships (excluding the obvious fantasy aspects) are completely normal… But it was not the case in my life story. I do still appreciate the artful presentation of Bella’s world numbing depression in New Moon and the story is still something I revisit sometimes (I understand no relationship is perfect, that’s the humanity of us)… But I would not say they are excellent representations of great literature.

I did enjoy the basis of The Host so much more and wish we had more of that world. Would have loved to see more stories… Maybe other worlds or just a continuation of humanity reasserting? And yes, I still find fault in the abuse justifications that occur in the story.

The Chemist was fine, but didn’t really hold for me either.

Would I read something else she releases? Sure. But, I wouldn’t put her in my MySpace top 5. ?‍♀️

@Tiffany that’s why I always say I outgrew he twilight series. I fell so in love with it when I was 15 but now that I’m older I realize how toxic some of the themes are. It still good a special place in my heart though

I loved The Host, but I DNF’d The Chemist. There were some good parts but I really hated the romance in it. I was really excited about it too so I was very disappointed when I didn’t love it 🙁
