Anything by Patricia Briggs, Ilona Andrew’s, Kim Harrison, Faith Hunter, Richelle Mead, Rachel Caine, or Anne Bishop come to mind
Books by Thomas Tryon freak me out and it take a lot to do so. Harvest Home is a good introduction to his work (it was a made for TV movie with Bette Davis when I was a kid. I couldn’t sleep for days!)

First… Happy Birthday! As for recommendations, my favorite horror novel is The Shining by Stephen King… it’s sooo much better than either film version! For sci-fi: Ender’s Game, The Hunger Games Trilogy, Flowers for Algernon (this one is certainly more depressing though). Paranormal romance, my wife loves the Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris, and the Graveyard Queen series by Amanda Stevens. Fantasy: The Belgariad by David Eddings, The Lord of the Rings, The Wheel of Time, Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson.

I’d suggest any Stephen King. Justin Woodward’s Tamer Animals was pretty good also.
What is your fav stephen king? I may also order it as well I have seen so many people reading that lately and I have seen both movies
I love The Dark Tower series, IT, The Stand, Bag if Bones, so so many. I’ve never read anything by King that I’ve just hated.
