Contestants compete for a cure for a sickness a family member has. In this story they have to find an egg that when it hatches has an animal with special abilities that help their player. It was one I read in 1 day so I really liked it and the sequel. Let me know if you read it.

Argel

I will look for it 🙂 Thanks

Great choice, love that story ?

1
Kamil

Arthur C. Clarke at his finest!

1
Robert

Don’t forget the two sequels, and if you heard of the interstellar object that passed through our solar system a while back (true story) I was so disappointed they didn’t name it Rama.

1
Kamil

Weren’t there three sequels? Rama II; The Garden of Rama; Rama Revealed. I know Gentry Lee co-wrote the latter novels.

1
Gordon

I thi k that’s right @Kamil…he also co-wrote Cradle, didn’t he?

1
Kamil

Yes, I believe so. I haven’t read Cradle as of yet, though. My favorite ACC short story, however, remains “Rescue Party.” 😉

I freakin love Drew Karpyshyn’s work???! I’ve fallen immediately in his Mass Effect trilogy, and Star Wars books also, especially Revan! What an amazing mind! And actually, I was just reading, collection of science fiction short stories written by a group of Polish science fiction writers ☺️

Is Mass Effect based on the video game?

0
Maggy

It’s a separate story in a way, but yes, connected, more focusing on Anderson, but you can get an idea, for example who is Grayson (though, shamely, in the game he is only mentioned once! and not so significantly, [not to spoil] – what happened to Kail Leng’s legs, actually I don’t reckon if it is mentioned in the game at all). And some other really fun facts, considering Anderson, and Kahlee Sanders (I was really disappointed of the fact that she wasn’t really shown more in the game…) Some horrendous acts of Cerberus with TIM on top of it… really great stories. But I think I loved ME: Ascension the most, I just couldn’t stop reading!! I need to get back to them all some day, definitely 😀

I’ve been thinking about reading those.
Are they good?

Dave

They are amazing. The science in them is great. The whole time I was reading them, I kept thinking, “Yup, that’s the way it would go.” The series also deals with how a separate Mars culture evolves.

At least one day a week is National Science Fiction Day for me. I posted above my three favorite series. I need to add Piers Anthony’s Xanth and Anne McCaffrey’s Dragon Riders of Pern series, which I read in my youth and have recently begun to reread. They’re even better now (I’m pushing 70).
