the second one (psychos) was good, the third (American babe) was trash IMO and I didn’t even bother with the fourth….I think it’s called thirsty or something
But she has two books set in America pre Revolutionary War that were fantastic. And then I just pick anything that’s from that era or the Regency era that’s free and read that. I’m also a sucker for cheesy romance vampire novels
I read all her books. I fell in love with vampire series in HS and had to read everything she wrote even under pseudonym, hence sleeping beauty ones, even awful Lolita one. But I really loved beauty ones.
I have 2 secrets. One…I am a life time member of the North American Jane Austen Society. I love Persuasions and Pride and Prejudice. I should be brought up on war crimes for all the ones I love and my book clubs I have tortured with Jane’s writing. Lol…today is the anniversary of her death…consider yourself now part of the Jane Austen Society?
And then there is my new shame, Dixieland Sushi. I love the cultural mix ups, the romance, and the historical ties. I was in heaven.
Jane is one of my first loves. I wanted to be Elizabeth Bennet when I grew up. I’m still waiting for the man who falls in love with me for my smart mouth. Jane is nothing to be ashamed of.
An oldie but a goodie “The Flame and the Flower” by Kathleen Woodiwiss. Absolutely politically incorrect and total brain rot, but just the ticket when your head is exploding with French IV composition/translation for a final exam.
I’m a sucker for the free romance novels you can get on the Nook. My favorites are historical romance or anything about princes and royalty or probably the most embarrassing, vampire based romance novels. LOL brain candy books are my guilty pleasure
I was an avid V.C. Andrews fan. I also liked the R.L. Stein Fear Street books. I would stalk my library for new ones and consume them as fast as I could.
I read those when first released (beach reads) and still have the paperbacks warped with saltwater. Good stuff way back when lol – and when I wanted to scare myself a bit more, out came John Saul and MHClark books.
i don’t remember many specifics but when Bella is really hurt by Edward and you turn the pages of the months and they are blank. That struck me because most authors would say, “Four months passed…”
Awe I love Charlene Harris….she writes some of the funniest lines. I always find myself laughing out loud to a line while reading and having people stare at me. I’ve started reading midnight Texas books.
I wouldn’t say I love to read them, but, there’s a series I get on Kindle Unlimited that I hate read. They are just awful, but i somehow feel invested in the Characters. It’s the Witches of the Midwest series.
@Amanda. I wasn’t until I started watching the series w my husband… but I still haven’t been able to plow through that last one. Claire and Jamie are getting old, in more ways than one.
I think we’ve sort of touched on this before. I’m never ashamed of what I read, even if it’s pure fluff and/or drivel. I didn’t ‘love’ the Twilight books but I enjoyed them and the movies. I also read/watched for my nieces because it was all the rage and it made me an even cooler aunt lol same with Hunger Games and I don’t actually enjoy dystopian stuff which is why I’ve yet to read Margaret Atwood’s stuff despite having 3 books downloaded on my Nook.
I agree. My grandmother, who was very educated (especially for her generation) is the one who introduced me to Nora Roberts/JD Robb, Danielle Steele, etc. so I don’t feel embarrassed or ashamed.
Agree. I’m not actually embarrassed about anything I’ve ever read. I may not talk about those books with people I know wouldn’t have read them or didn’t enjoy them but never actually embarrassed.
I apologize profusely for these….I hope they serve beer in hell, Assholes finish first and Hilarity Ensues. Tucker Max is a horrible person, and I’m horrible for thinking he’s freaking hilarious….
So I may have just downloaded the audio of I hope they serve beer in hell from my library after this discussion. I feel like it will make a great companion for my cleaning and yard work today lol
Sigh… Stephanie Plum series and Sookie Stackhouse series. I may have re-read both several times, and I may have all of the companion/short stories too. ☺️
I found this fac fiction site for the sookie series. One is awesome, it’s all the books from Eric’s pov. I re-read that more than the actual series lol.
I can’t find it ???? I had it saved on my phone, but I switched proviles and all my bookmarks got erased, and now I can’t find it again onine. I was just reading it a few weeks ago! I may cry lol
Omg that is one of my top favorite series EVER!! I Finally reread and finished it last summer OMG! I love love love that series except for like books 8-10 ?
I was in a “Not your Mama’s Book Club” book club a couple of years ago… and some of those books were…well let’s just say they were good for my marriage! LOL!!
I like books about the apocalypse. I also admit to liking the Twilight series. I used to love the Flowers in the Attic and Heaven series from V.C. Andrews but I read those as a teen. I also loved anything by Sidney Sheldon and remember when they made the books into miniseries.
Very old school but I have read everything Jacqueline Susann wrote and I loved every benzo popping, liquor dripping, sweet little dog, impossibly broken but beautiful man, torn from the headlines, poorly written minute of them. There are just a handful of authors whose entire body of work I’ve read. I’m not proud that Susann is one of them, but I’m not sorry either.
I’m not really ASHAMED but I love the “I am Number 4” series and reread it ever other summer or so! 🙂 😛
Odd Thomas series by Dean Koontz. I feel like I’m reading Goosebumps or Choose your own Adventure books ??
Totlandia series by Josie Brown. ??
White Girl Problems by Babe Walker. I even themed my birthday party after it one year ??
In my Thriftbooks cart
the second one (psychos) was good, the third (American babe) was trash IMO and I didn’t even bother with the fourth….I think it’s called thirsty or something
@Olivia the fourth was literally an advertisement for White Girl Wine
This was so much fun!
@Kate ????? so annoying!
@Olivia have you listened to the Audio version of the first two books? Tavia Gilbert is THE best narrator ever and it’s so so good.
@Kate I haven’t! I don’t think I have ever done an audio book before but I will have to check it out!
Not ashamed but Twilight. I also may have reread the baby sitters club books as an adult and am tempted to again. #comeatmebro ?
I maaaaaay have named my dog after Bella ?♀️
Same with Twilight. Not ashamed but don’t readily offer up to people. ?
Check out the Baby sitters club club podcast! Two guys in their twenties are reading all of the baby sitters club books lol
@Ashten oh I’ve listened to it! So funny.
Yep Twilight for sure. I’ve been tempted to re-read both baby sitters club and box car children books as an adult.
@Kristin box car children was my first love!!!
Grabbed this at the used store a couple days ago.
I may or may not have reread the Sweet Valley High series as an adult…and the follow up books ??? #JessicaWakefieldforever

My mom has all of my SVH books at her house still!!!
@Jodie this one effed me up as a kid. ???
I let my mom give all mine away so now I’m on a mission to find my old favorites!
I love cheesy romance novels set in the Regency era. I know. Brain rot and all that. ?
Me too. Its my secret guilty pleasure
Who is your favorite author?
I loved kerrilynn sparks. Can’t think of any others right now because I normally just read whatever is free on my Nook LOL
But she has two books set in America pre Revolutionary War that were fantastic. And then I just pick anything that’s from that era or the Regency era that’s free and read that. I’m also a sucker for cheesy romance vampire novels
Check out Catherine Coulter. She creates great characters that you really feel like you get to know.
Sleeping Beauty series by Anne Rice. Would make Christian Grey blush.
Hahaha ?? seriously!!
Did you read Exit to Eden?
I read all her books. I fell in love with vampire series in HS and had to read everything she wrote even under pseudonym, hence sleeping beauty ones, even awful Lolita one. But I really loved beauty ones.
@Cynthia have you read her Mayfair Witches series?
Oooh..never heard of the Sleeping Beauty series.
@Erina “The Witching Hour” is my fave Anne Rice book.
@Her prepare yourself lol
Yes read Talos books
Mystery series – so embarassed when I get caught reading an “In Death” book. Or a “Prey” novel. Or one of the Kellermans.
Love the Prey books.
I can’t believe I’ve been reading them for almost 20 years. But my friends think I only read non-fiction and fancy literally fiction so… shhhh.
I love the In Death Books! Not ashamed to say it at all! Well developed characters are fun to me. Feel like family.
I love JD Robb’s In Death series…no shame ?
The In Death series is amazing!!
I love Jonathan Kellerman. No shame.
The Beach books by Wendy Wax. They make me so happy!
LOVE THOSE!
Love these as well & im 2 behind
The Dragonian Series
Thinking…thinking…thinking.
The Royal Spyness series. Formulaic but entertaining
I like the Joanne Fluke cozy mystery series. They are predictable and a little old fashioned, but I still read them in between other books.
Yes!!!! Joanna Fluke books are so simple but oddly entertaining
And her recipes are outstanding!!!❤️??
I love those!
Drunk Mom and another one called How to murder your life
Gossip Girl. Or Angus, Thongs, and Full Frontal Snogging….. both ya which I usually hate but gah so good.
Omg Angus!! I forgot about that series. Read it and own the movie ??? total guilty pleasure lol
ahaha Angus Thongs and Full Frontal Snogging… man that brings me back! ? now I want to reread those
Those sound terrible ? searching Thriftbooks now.
@Kathi YES! I’m so sad I no longer own them.
A Knight in Shining Armour by Jude Deveraux. I haven’t read it in probably 20 years, but I loved it when I did. ??
One of my fav books EVER!!!

Jane is one of my first loves. I wanted to be Elizabeth Bennet when I grew up. I’m still waiting for the man who falls in love with me for my smart mouth. Jane is nothing to be ashamed of.
Persuasion is my favorite followed closely by Pride and Prejudice.
An oldie but a goodie “The Flame and the Flower” by Kathleen Woodiwiss. Absolutely politically incorrect and total brain rot, but just the ticket when your head is exploding with French IV composition/translation for a final exam.
Hello Thriftbooks search!!!
One of my favs, love the wolf and the dove.
Totally just read that like three weeks ago. Couldnt check it out so it was my first kindle read! I ❤️ that book (and ur review is spot on).
Read these many years ago! Loved them!
French IV – somehow I managed to earn a C …. and graduate. ?
I’m a sucker for the free romance novels you can get on the Nook. My favorites are historical romance or anything about princes and royalty or probably the most embarrassing, vampire based romance novels. LOL brain candy books are my guilty pleasure
Who doesn’t love a good bodice ripping.
@Cynthia ???
If you have Kindle Unlimited “Shade of Vampire” series are a guilty pleasure. They were a perfect combo of silly & awesome!
V.C. Andrews, enough said.
But not the ones were someone took over the writing cuz she died.
Are you a child of the 80s? ❤️
I was born in 1980, so yeah I guess you could say that. ?
I didn’t read Flowers in the Attic until 1993 however.
Flowers in the Attic was my first realization that movies and books weren’t always the same!
The old series are soooo good.
My favorite was the Angel series
Guilty! I forgot about that book. I actually gave it to my mom. (Cringe)
I was an avid V.C. Andrews fan. I also liked the R.L. Stein Fear Street books. I would stalk my library for new ones and consume them as fast as I could.
How about the clan of the cave bear?
YES!
The Heaven series was the first time a book ruined me. Ruined me. I still love it so much.
@Erin Did you fall in love with Troy Tatterton too?
HE JUST LOVED HER SO MUCH!!!!!!??
I read those when first released (beach reads) and still have the paperbacks warped with saltwater. Good stuff way back when lol – and when I wanted to scare myself a bit more, out came John Saul and MHClark books.
The first Twilight novel ?
I truly loved the first 250 pages. To this day, Bella’s dad is my favorite character.
i don’t remember many specifics but when Bella is really hurt by Edward and you turn the pages of the months and they are blank. That struck me because most authors would say, “Four months passed…”
I just could not like Bella. I can’t get into a book when I’m unsympathetic towards main character.
@Katie and I was repeatable bruised and broken”…crap crap crap
@Cynthia the actress in the movie made Bella even MORE annoying!
True. All of it.
All three Twilight novels.
Pretty Little Lairs series
That is the ultimate in awesome. #PTA
This one is so hard! I feel like I’m proud to like anything I read, otherwise I wouldn’t be reading it… Hmmm….
All the Twilight novels!
Still team Edward, just sayin! ❤️
@Cricket I know, right?!?
Jacob, though warm, couldn’t match what Edward had to offer! And, did the costume department not have any shirts!

I wouldn’t say I love to read them, but, there’s a series I get on Kindle Unlimited that I hate read. They are just awful, but i somehow feel invested in the Characters. It’s the Witches of the Midwest series.
Haha. I started reading that series this summer… It kind of sucks you in. ?
Right! But they are soooooo terrible.

Krewe of Hunters series by Heather Graham. These are Paranormal romance/ suspense books. A little trashy but always an easy read.
Twilight. I was working at Barnes & Noble when it came out, but before it became popular. The Kids Lead read it and recommended it. I loved it!
Twilight
The Witching Savannah series.
It’s actually kind of hard to follow with all the ridiculous things that happen but I still keep going. I guess it was my hate read.
Outlander
NEVER BE ASHAMED OF THIS LOLOLOLOLOL <3
@Amanda. I wasn’t until I started watching the series w my husband… but I still haven’t been able to plow through that last one. Claire and Jamie are getting old, in more ways than one.

Howdy neighbor to the south ~waves from Huntsville~
Greeting from your capitol!
@Erin That sounded very Hunger Gamish!
You’re the poster for why I love book friends! I totally said it in my President Snow voice!
Vicki Lewis Thompson’s nerd smut romances. ???
I apologize profusely for these….I hope they serve beer in hell, Assholes finish first and Hilarity Ensues. Tucker Max is a horrible person, and I’m horrible for thinking he’s freaking hilarious….
I’ve read I hope they serve beer in hell. I thought it was hilarious too, and I’ll fully admit I’m a horrible person as well ?
Omg! I still laugh till I cry over his “butt sex” blog post from years ago.
The story of the hockey game and mascot is one of the funniest things I’ve ever read.
I should have also mentioned…I own all 3…?
I read them on the shitter at a friend’s house.
@Erin OMG! This comment made me spit out my coffee!!! ???
I mean some books are just made for the shitter, ya know.
So I may have just downloaded the audio of I hope they serve beer in hell from my library after this discussion. I feel like it will make a great companion for my cleaning and yard work today lol
@Kristin I may have to check out the audiobook, you know, for a friend…?
@Amy I own all 3 too (and two of them are autographed!!)
@Synova I have to admit, I’m a bit jealous! ?
@Synova yep, bit MORE jealous now! ? awesome pic, thanks for sharing!!
I thought I was the only one! He is awful, but a very talented writer.
I have read some terrible smut that I wish I hadn’t read and dont share with people much.
Sigh… Stephanie Plum series and Sookie Stackhouse series. I may have re-read both several times, and I may have all of the companion/short stories too. ☺️
No shame, I love them too!
Love those too
I found this fac fiction site for the sookie series. One is awesome, it’s all the books from Eric’s pov. I re-read that more than the actual series lol.
@Amanda would you happen to have a link to that? I would love to read those!
@Amanda Eric’s my boyfriend ?
Some of the True Blood/Sookie Stackhouse Series fan fic is way better than the originals. (I guess my secret shame is probably fanfic in general)
I can’t find it ???? I had it saved on my phone, but I switched proviles and all my bookmarks got erased, and now I can’t find it again onine. I was just reading it a few weeks ago! I may cry lol
Ok, the site that I normally use must have been shut down. it was http://ericnorthman.net/ or com or something. But here is my FAVORITE story on another site. It’s the series from Eric pov. http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4844694/1/Eric
@Amanda Oh no! That’s sad! I’m sorry you lost them! Thank you for sharing that one though, I will bookmark it and check it out. Thanks so much!
My favorite FF author of all time was EricIzMine. She wrote the best stuff!
Yep! I loved the Sookie Stackhouse series in the beginning but they got a little too weird for me towards the end. Loved the True Blood series too.

jackie collins….
Twilight, I know, I am so ashamed.
THERE IS NO TWILIGHT SHAMING HERE.
Exactly. My sil loved them to death. All the backlash ruined it for her. I felt bad.

Her book The Chemist was good as well.
@Nancy I liked it !
The entire Black Dagger Brotherhood series
How do you get over the names? I trip over all those extra Hs and then can’t get going! 🙂
@Leslie I find one way to say it in my brain and stick to it ?
I sometimes overthink it, but I have quite a few friends who read the books so I’ve asked their input before!
The twilight series, I loooved reading the books
The wheel of time. Eventhough it ran on and on I loved it. I loved the characters! I’m ashamed cause I read them at 36 years old lol
Omg that is one of my top favorite series EVER!! I Finally reread and finished it last summer OMG! I love love love that series except for like books 8-10 ?
Old school but Judith Krantz ?
I was in a “Not your Mama’s Book Club” book club a couple of years ago… and some of those books were…well let’s just say they were good for my marriage! LOL!!

Laurell K. Hamilton’s Anita Blake series
Oh dear yes!
LA King had an incredible set too.
@Erin never heard of that, thanks for the suggestion!
I am with you up until she stopped having actual plots and just had the characters stay in bed/bathroom. 🙂
@Leslie yes i stopped at a certain point too
I think we all moved on at that point… could have been so beautiful.
