I loved it. I think it mixed heavy and whimsical perfectly. It’s one of those books that made my heart ache one minute and had me laughing out loud the next.
I listened to the audiobook. It was slow starting and I intended to stop listening to it, but got busy doing something, and next thing I know I’m completely engrossed and couldn’t stop listening to it.
I started it once and found it slow so put it aside, but picked it for a book group snd listened to the audiobook. I liked 2nd half better than the beginning.
Just started reading this book today. So far, I’m really enjoying it. It’s kind of an emotional roller coaster, though. It has me giggling at points, and then feeling for the lonely Ove… Can’t wait to see how the whole story line unfolds!
Had to force myself to keep reading it…but I rarely quit a book…and…drum roll, please…it’s one of my favorites!!! I don’t like admitting this, but, truth is, I have some quirks in common with Ove ????????
I loved the dry humor. Good book. I think all the people in my book club enjoyed it! I kept picturing Ove to look like Red Foreman from the 70s Show. Lol
Didn’t like Ove at first. Thought he was an old jerk. I even asked myself “Why am I reading about this old grouch?” but through his recollections, I began to really like him. I enjoyed learning why he was the way he was. By the end, I ugly cried. I really loved this book and highly recommend it.
Our book club enjoyed a stimulating conversation after reading this book. I loved it and the essential life lesson learned. Don’t make hasty judgments about people.
Good enough to finish but hardly life-changing. Comfortable is a good descriptor. Also predictable. Nice. But I won’t search out the author’s other books.
<3
I absolutely loved it.
Loved it!
I really enjoyed the book. Ove was such a likable character.

I loved it. I would say it’s in my favorite 10 books. Have you read it yet, or getting thoughts before you start it?

Loved the book & movie!!!!
Loved it.
It grew on me. I’m really glad I stuck with it, though.
Loved it. Have read more of his books and now he is one of my favorite authors!
Loved it!

One of my favorites, it’s worth the time!
It was ok. I finished it but I got tired of hearing what a crank Ove is. I wouldn’t say it was a must read, it was just ok.
That is a book that stays with you a while
Loved it
It was pretty good, but I liked the author’s “Grandmother” book much, much better
I have both. Leaning toward Ove to start first.
Enjoy, Fredik Backman is a wonderful writer
He’s new to me. In part because of this group. Although, I have a fairly high rejection rate.
I loved the dry humor. Good book. I think all the people in my book club enjoyed it! I kept picturing Ove to look like Red Foreman from the 70s Show. Lol
Loved it!
I loved it. I need to see the movie
Liked it
I found it slow
I’m almost finished with it & I’m loving it.
Loved it
I did enjoy it and would recommend BUT I was expecting more based on the hype. That’s the catch-22 when a book has a ton of buzz…
So good!!
Loved it!
Definitely my favorite Backman book.
Slow to start but hang in there, it’s worth it.
I’m completely in love with Ove!
Funny. An endearing character. Cute book but nothing substantial.
I enjoyed both the book and the movie.
Heartbreaking. The love for his wife, the care he took with all his projects. The people who came to love him????
Excellent book & movie
I know most people love it, but I hated it.
me too…
So glad other people didn’t like it too.
I didn’t like it, either.
Loooooved it. I miss ove. I just watched the movie and loved that too
Thoroughly enjoyed it
I picked it up but didn’t buy it.
My favorite book
Thank you all for your comments! I am in the “slow start” camp but it drew me in more as it went on.
Wonderful story. Heartwarming and funny.
Great book!
Very good!
Loved the book! Read it!
Loved I’ve — both the book and the character. Truly didn’t want the book to end.
Ove — not I’ve. Sometmes I hate auto-correct.
pure love.
Loved it. Went on to read all of the author’s books.
Lovely book!
Loved that book. It’s one of my favorites.
Loved it!
Loved it on audio.
Heart breaking
I don’t know why but it took me a couple of attempts to get into it, but once I did I loved it. So glad I persevered. Loved the film too.
I loved the story …thought the ending was unnecessary.
I’m curious, how so?
Maybe, predictable is more what I meant. I think it could have ended without his death, and the financial windfall felt gratuitous.
I love Ove so much. I couldn’t love him more. He’s my favorite Backman character easily.
♥️♥️♥️♥️ one of my faves
Ugh did not like it
I read the first 20 pages and could not continue. Dreadful is the word that comes to mind. Moved on to another book.
I feel the same.
Loved it.
Loved it.
Loved the book ? Heard there might be a movie ?
Reminded me of my husband, do you read books that resemble those in your life?
Loved it! In the beginning you might be turned off by this cantankerous old man, but In the end, you love him!
Parts of it make for a good read aloud. Very funny! I read it to my husband on a car trip.
Loved it.
why? what appealed to you?
The pain in the ass old man. The dark humour. But it ultimately wins you and moves you at the end. I remember tearing up towards the end.
People clearly either love or really dislike this book!
Loved it.
Loved it ?
I love Ove so much!
Loved it!
I love that book, so did my whole family. I got passed around throughout the family and then a neighbor.
Still trying to get into it
Great book and movie!!
Loved it!
It took few attempts finally end up with audio n luv it. Nice one
loved it, cried like a baby at the end
I had a hard time getting in to it because Ove annoyed me. But I kept going and once you learn more about the character, it gets better
thanks…that’s what i’m hoping.
slow beginingg, but great as it proceeds…..
Wonderful story x
Been wanting to read it. I’ll give it a try
Boring
Loved it
OK
still reading it, bailing right now, don’t want spoilers, but enjoying it so far.
I loved it
Reinforces idea that there is more to a person than might first appear
I loved it!

I was the opposite lol I could relate to a curmudgeon cuz I think I am one too lol
Couldn’t. Just couldn’t.
I also loved the book! The movie was pretty good too.
Loved it
Our book club enjoyed a stimulating conversation after reading this book. I loved it and the essential life lesson learned. Don’t make hasty judgments about people.
Comfortable. Read. But many deeper issues with Ove. So well written I can picture him
Good enough to finish but hardly life-changing. Comfortable is a good descriptor. Also predictable. Nice. But I won’t search out the author’s other books.
Loved it!
Just a note: how wonderful was NANCY DREW when we were very young
Loved the book—characters welll-done, good story.
