I struggled to finish this book but I powered through – and I will never again stick with a book that I’m not enjoying just for the sake of finishing it.

I found it to be erratic and long winded. I kept waiting for it to go somewhere….. it just never did.

I did not like this book at all. I kept reading because I was hoping it would get better but no such luck!

Least significant, as far as I am concerned, of Phillip Dick’s work. Try just about anything else by him, especially short stories.

Brandy Farrell I bought the book to see if it had greater resolution and clarity than the miniseries; the concept intrigued me. But your review suggests that the book pretty much sounds like the miniseries. Maybe I won’t bother.

It wasn’t finished, as published. There was supposed to be more but he didn’t finish it, so………

That makes more sense.

He didn’t seem to be able to write different characters. Each person were written and sounded exactly the same. That’s what annoyed me the most.

It is interesting conceptually, but yes, in the end, a disappointing read.

Dick is one of my favourite authors, and “…high castle” is right up there IMO. Still no idea what actually happens at the end though, so if you could enlighten me I’d be very grateful!

I read it after watching the Amazon TV series. The show adds a fair amount (and largely well done) to the book.

I love Philip K. Dick, but I had trouble with that book.

It’s one of my favorite books ever! It is a beautiful, intricate story about the human ability to cope with the worst case scenario, to be genuine, to create art, to be heroes in the face of pure evil. The bit where contemplating a piece of art literally moves a character into a different universe gives me goosebumps.
And it got me to get the I Ching to see what the fuss is about. Some books are alive.
