One of my first exposures to science fiction. I loved his humor, I loved the wonky characters and aliens he created, and I loved the absurdity of it all. One of my very favorite books. I also really like his Dirk Gently books.
I want to reread this. I have fond memories of it but haven’t been able to stick to reading it a second time. Not the books fault. Just me and my inability to focus.
It’s really funny. One of the few books I’ve actually sat back and laughed out loud. However, the subsequent books I didn’t enjoy nearly as much and stopped after #3.
I tried for a week. Usually I can read almost any book in that time but this put me to sleep every time and I was bored so I gave myself permission to quit.
I fell off my chair laughing. Literally!! I was in the library at the time and had picked up the book to see what it was about. But you either get his sense of humour or you don’t. 🙂
I love it. It’s in my top 10. As a matter of fact, today, in another book group, I listed it as one of the books I wished I could read again for the first time. ?
I love the Hitchhikers 5 book trilogy!! The end of book 5 is a touch depressing, but the whole series is absolutely brilliant. A shame the world lost such a talent.

Astonishingly funny. Diminishing returns on each sequel but all worth a read. I still use Adam’s phrase “almost exactly unlike.”

Witty, irreverent, innocent look at the universe. I read it to my 11 year old son.

It has a specific sense of humor and worldview. I really love it, but some people…don’t. You’ll know very soon into the book though, if it’s for you.

I couldn’t finish it. I didn’t enjoy it. The movie was just ok. I feel like it’s a love it or hate it type of book.
Skip the movie! It is one of my favorite books- I could reread it every year.
