Troy

it was awful

It’s a screenplay, so it’s in that format

But the story is horrible

It honestly reads like fan fiction to me.

Bad fanfic. Plot ridiculous. Characters completely ooc. The only thing I liked about it was Scorpius.

Awful, also can’t stand reading screenplays but the whole plot is ridiculous

Do you like fan fiction?

@Cassandra not really. I guess it would depend though

Cassandra

Then Cursed Child is probably not a good fit for you

@Cassandra I don’t even feel like that is fair. Sometimes fan fic can be great. Its like they picked they worst, most over the top one they could and were like yep. They fandom will love this.

Cassandra

But if a person, overall, doesn’t really like fan fiction, then even good fan fiction probably isn’t right for them.
I’m not really a fan fic person. There are a few very minor exceptions, but those are so few and far between, that I fit more into the category of NOT liking fan fiction.
That’s why I led with the question I did.

@Cassandra I know I was mostly joking. Saying that even if you like fan fic you’ll still not like it.

I’d like to pretend that it doesn’t exist.

@Abernath People try to tell me its canon…nah dude it’s not.

@Rachelle I think it’s just easier to accept it as an alternate reality. Another universe trapped in an item in the department of mysteries.

I enjoyed it. Read it then make your own opinion

I wish I had not read it. Only time I have regretted not listening to others opinions on a book.

It wasn’t good. I have read much better fanfic

If you don’t like screenplays, don’t bother. If you do like screenplays, also don’t bother.

I haven’t read it myself, but I worked in a bookstore during it’s release. I can’t tell you how many people came back to return it or complain about it. Take that as you will

I liked it for what it was. But, you have to remember that it’s a SCRIPT. I know a lot if people who were pissed off that it was a script and not a novel.

As someone who has worked on film productions, and can read a story from a script, the story still sucked, no matter what format it was presented in.

@Cassandra thank you! I hate it when people use the excuse that it’s a screenplay. It’s still not a good plot

Once I got used to the screenplay format, I really enjoyed it!

Read the synopsis. Reads like bad fanfic.

Is it even intended to be read? I thought it was a play. 🙂

It is fanfic like but it’s still fun hearing about the characters I love. It seemed like they tried way too hard to make it important rather than making it good.

When I read the last page I was sad it was the end of the book. That book was amazing. Everyone that likes Harry Potter should read it!

Took a while for me to get into it. Don’t really like the screenplay style but enjoyed it

I am done with Harry Potter, I have, to some extent, grown out of it and into other, bigger, better things. Anything other than the main series is something I would NEVER recommend, and with that post regarding toiletry I lost all respect for Rowling as a writer, a person, and in all aspects of life.
May Rowling descend into deserved obscurity.

Post regarding toiletry?

Matt

@Sergei yes I am also I intrigued by this toiletry tweeter

Sergei

Earlier this year, or maybe in late 2018, my memory fails, Rowling tweeted a trivia no one asked for. Claiming, in contradiction to the canon, that Hogwarts had no drain pipes until recently, and as such wizards defecated on hall corners and disappeared the feces with magic.
That prompted many to parody her claims with the most outlandish things possible.

Portia

Sergei Lich Cornejo well that doesn’t tie in with the books at all , where would moaning Mertyl hang out? Must’ve been a joke!

1
Kahla

@Portia she didn’t intend for it to be a joke. She has defended the statement

I can’t stand reading screen plays. Totally takes me out of my imagination and ruins the experience

The James Potter fan fic series is sooo much better. I actually printed and hand bound them in moleskin to add to our HP collection.

i don’t need to the damn book. harry potter is the beloved child who knows sorcery and uses devilish means to get his way while the cursed child hags on the problems of his enemies, frenemies, and foes and gets the stick pins. be wary of your devilish peripherals. utter nonsense to read something i can grasp already.

I didn’t like it and it was a waste of my time and I personally don’t consider it canon (I don’t consider any new thing JK Rowling says or “tweets” canon.. she is clearly not thinking straight lately)

I suggest never reading a synopsis, review, or anything before reading that book. Just a thumbs up from a reliable source is adequate and you get your own experience.
