Thoughts on Carve the mark and the fates divide. Like I’ve read them but no one I know has and I wanna talk

I enjoyed them
They’re in my shelves somewhere but I haven’t had the motivation to pick them up. Are they any good for you?
To me they were a bit cliche and I found myself predicting it a little especially the sequel but for some reason I actually didn’t mind them to much. I find myself re reading them. I can’t exactly pinpoint what it is but I think the premise and some of the plot points made it really interesting the “carve the mark” part of the book. I really enjoy historical fiction and dystopian and it may not have had exactly accurate history but I got a slight vibe from that. Mainly thou the role reversals. And the strong female character.
Hmm maybe I could pick them up soon. I’m still currently submerged in The Graces by Laure Eve, which I’m immensely enjoying
@Jameson oh what’s that about ?
Everyone said the Graces were witches.
They moved through the corridors like sleek fish, ripples in their wake. Stares followed their backs and their hair.
They had friends, but they were just distractions. They were waiting for someone different.
All I had to do was show them that person was me.
Like everyone else in her town, River is obsessed with the Graces, attracted by their glamour and apparent ability to weave magic. But are they really what they seem? And are they more dangerous than they let on?
A direct copy-paste from Goodreads ?
I’m 60%-ish through the book, and I’m enthralled.
@Jameson wow loooks interesting I’ll have to have a look especially because I know that a lot of the things I dislike you do too
@Jameson i’m just gonna pop in here and say that i am on board for that book, it sounds good! imma go put it on good reads right now
Yeah. I hope you’ll like them ?
@Danielle I should really get that to keep track of what people tell me
@Danielle but I’m really lazy I used to have it
@Kiara Good! Reads!
@Danielle that’s so much work I have to reset my password
I don’t have a Goodreads account myself ?
@Danielle overruled hahaha
i do because i like sorting my virtual books into different “shelves” and it’s really handy if you for example, like me, love going into bookstores and finding books and then going “this looks good!” but then realising you have 78574 books at home and no u can’t afford to buy more cuz u can just scan the lil barcode and boom! it’s on ur bookshelf. that way taking a picture doesn’t get lost in ur photos never to be seen again
@Jameson @Kiara
@Danielle Jameson Rivera I just buy it anyway and then have no money
@Kiara ok but if u have a book that u don’t wanna buy right away cuz u only kinda like it and aren’t sure
@Danielle yeah I used to have it but then it didn’t make the cut
@Danielle MB got me into it but I proved to lazy
@Kiara i personally super like it but ya definitely don’t need it
i think i got them for christmas? i wasn’t too keen because i didn’t particularly like the other works from the author (divergent series)
@Danielle yeah same
@Danielle yeah you have at least one I swear I saw it on your bookshelf like last year
I was very hesitant to read them because of the Divergent series, but I actually really enjoyed them! It’s a light enough sci-fi where it doesn’t get bogged down in technical terms, but the world building is still well done. I really enjoyed the relationship between the two main characters (Akos ❤️). The different cultures are also really fun to read about.
@April same here. I know that a lot of people had problems with the cultural war and stuff but I thought it was quite true to real life
@April thoughts on the sequel? And I’d love to know what you thought of Cyra?
@Kiara I was very happy with the sequel. I actually liked Cyra a whole lot more in the sequel. Her character arc is good, Akos’s is still better though.
@April true. I loved the power dynamic. If I may ask what do you think of the 4 split POV?
@Kiara that was a bit of a struggle to get used to, but I think she did a good job of have clearly different voices for each POV.
@April agreed. I like how it was like two stories but intertwined. It was nice having those small breaks in between to digest what was happening. Two very important parts of the story thou. Her world building was incredible thou. Very discriptive yet not obvious when reading the story and not to complicated for easy reading and memory
@Kiara I’m trying to read more sci-fi and the technical jargon is always the hardest part for me. I love the world building and cultural descriptions though.
@April I find with some books they focus on too much of one thing or the other or go to far and fixate or certain things. It’s really annoying and hard to find that balance
I loved them! ♥️
I hated carve the mark so much. It drove me nuts.
@Michaela why ?
It’s been a few hundred books ago, so I had to look at my review. According to my complaints it was a struggle to get through , and I felt the world building was overcomplicated, there was just too much going on and I didn’t connect with the characters. I liked the premise of it but hated the execution of it. That it needed some pairing down or editing.
I read them at the end of last year….I enjoyed them xx
