This book was first published in 1969 and has managed to remain popular for fifty years
The Sunday NYTimes Book Review for 4/21/19 has devoted a full page to this classic crime novel and has discussed it’s relation to Portnoy’s Complaint, another popular novel, which however, is not criminal in nature.
It’s one of my faves, too, @Sean!!! It is DEFINITELY my favorite movie that is more focused on a male cast. I’ve actually made lists of my top fives based on different categories. Have you seen “The Departed”? I just recently watched it, and since crime dramas are my fave genre, I was SUPER impressed with it! Honestly, I haven’t seen that great of a crime movie since “Reservoir Dogs,” which I also loved.
@Jamie the departed is a great movie too, did you know it was originally called internal affairs and was in subtitles. It was remade into the departed about 4/5 years after the original

My favourite movie, it’s the only occasion where I’ve actively avoided a book.
@Sean it’s a good book.
@Robert and I love that movie too. I’ve watched it countless times. Did you ever see the The Freshman? You might enjoy that immensely.

@Jamie also I love reservoir dogs too, before I found my love for books , my main love was movies ?
Just read it for the first time. My brother’s favorite book. Good read.
I never read it but it was just on tv. I recently read that it’s the no. 1 book adapted to screen of all time
Pretty great book. Read it this year.
One of my favorite movies! I’ve never read the book. <3 What do you like about it, [user slug="u1131636388" first_name="Kathy" last_name="Adams"]?

I love the “macho” personality of the men!
?
It set the bar for the genre. Nothing else comes close.
I’ve never seen the film or read the book. (yup, I’ve never seen Star Wars either). What’s the one thing that makes it something I should read?
Helen Alton
I’ve never read a Harry Potter book, or seen a Star Wars movie. I do however love the God Father Book & Movie, and Marlon Brando? as the God Father.
Helen Allton
The book/movie presents an excellent depiction of the American immigrant experience, with emphasis on the Italian immigrant.
