The boy in the striped pajamas ?
We read that book in our book club and I have to admit that, while the other BC members enjoyed it for the most part, I absolutely detested it. 🙁
Oh what a dreadfully sad story
I felt horrible the whole book knowing what was going on :/
Such an emotional read
Try explaining that story to a kindergartener
? Im confused..why would you?
I teach a unit on the Holocaust in my ELA class. I use a variety of fiction and nonfiction texts. I was watching the video assessing its classroom appropriateness and my son was watching it with me.
Oh I see
Even with no context I just understand and ouch
The most heartbreaking ending to a book ever
Great book ❤
I didn’t read the book, but watched the movie. Very sad and I could never watch it again.
This book left me so sad for quite a long time.
Does anyone know a book that is very similar to this kind of story? Holocaust wise? Doesnt have to about a child and can be from the jewish end.
Try Between shades of gray by Ruta Sepetys, the tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris, number the stars by Lois Lowry, we were the lucky ones by Georgia hunter, night by Elie wiesel or the diary of Mary berg ?
I just finished the Tattooist of Auschwitz and can’t recommend it highly enough.
@Dianne I read that as well. It was amazing.
I read the book and was so sad at the end but at the same time I couldn’t help experiencing schadenfreude where the parents were concerned.
I cried a lot when i finished this book. It took me a good few days to want to read something else, it broke my heart. A very very sad story.
I recently read the Tattooist of Auschowitz.. It was very good
@Patti I finished that just before this. It was very well written.
Something I wondered about though..the father said at the end he didnt care when they came and took him, why did they take him?
A brilliant book.
