I’m in the same situation. I HATE not finishing a book. I usually always try to finish because a book sometimes surprises me at the end. But I’m considering moving on from this one ?

Yes! Life is too short for boring books. I used to try and suffer through and one day I realized there wasn’t a reason that I needed to finish.

@Lori I used to do the same thing

Yes. If it were for a class or you were trying to self study or obtain some info, it’d be a different story. But reading purely for pleasure is different. I probably ditch about a third of books I get from the library, bringing them back unread.

Heh, yep, I say move on, I always do 🙂 I make sure I’m at least 50 pages in tho. If I’m not 50 pages in then I feel that I’m judging it too soon.

I would suggest to put the book down and then try to visit it again after some time.
It happens to me too sometimes, but then its really nice to finish a story that you’ve started. It may be boring but it’s still a story and every story, at least for me is always worth reading. ☺️

Totally, if it’s one you borrowed from the library, you can always reborrow it, if it’s one you own, put it back on a shelf until you feel the time is right to pick it up again. As everyone else has said, life is way too short to read books that we just aren’t into!!!

If it’s not grabbing you move on life is too short to waste time on something you feel is a chore rather than enjoying it.

I have read a lot of books. If I can’t get into it in the first chapter I put it down. Some books seem to be good at first, then it hits a dry wall in the middle. Like the author is trying to thicken the book… Put the boring book down. Life is too short.?

My good bookish friend and I, have a loosey-goosey rule: if, by the page equivalent to your age, the book does not “grab you”, excite you, or otherwise hold your interest, grab it and put it back on the shelf, or wherever you deem appropriate!!

Idk I’m one of those people who likes to finish a book, i believe that you learn a new thing with every book that you read, also some books seem to pick up pace in the middle so I personally say give it another chance if it’s really really boring then put it back!

I give a book until page 60 typically before I decide to quit. It seems like the length at which, even if the story is slow, you’ll know whether or not you enjoy the writing style (which is equally important to the story and characters).

I started Daughter of the burning city this morning and 60 pages later, I finally had to give up. Too many other choices to read something not catching my fancy.
