Depends on what the author’s collection is already on my shelf. I have authors I collect only HBs for and authors I only collect paperbacks from. If it’s a book I’m not sure about paperback.
I tend to prefer paperback just for the ease in reading, a bit easier for me to hold. And they are usually cheaper. As long as it’s not the dinky mass produced ones, I can’t do those. I avoid, too small for my eyes and hands. But I do buy hardback, too.
I LOVE hardback books, but I do love paperback as well, they’re lighter and cheaper so they’re easier to take in my bag, but hardbacks for home and anywhere I’m not planning on walking far ?
Of these two choices, hardcover. Overall, ebooks. I have Cerebral Palsy, and have trouble holding hardcovers, especially when it’s a huge book. For example, The Century Trilogy and The Kingsbridge Series by Ken Follett.
because of my vision I prefer Kindle now because I can enlarge the print… When reading print books I can only read for about 5 to 10 minutes before I start to get a headache… With my Kindle I can read for hours or until of Kindle dies without getting a headache
Whatever is available at the library an when purchase them from Ollies or yard sales. But I like paperback to take with me on the go and can read both will at home. As the new age I tried tablets but didn’t like because I like the feel of actually holding the psychical book. Audio books I can’t concentrate and keep the information straight.
Depends on the author. For the authors I collect, hardback. For the ones I read but don’t collect paperback. Also, I agree with @Clarence. If you drop it on your face while reading in bed it doesn’t hurt as bad ?
I like the way hardbacks look on a shelf, but it’s easier to hold paperbacks for long periods of time. I prefer digital and audio books personally. I buy hardbacks if it’s a book I love and will eventually reread. If I buy a physical copy, it’s usually paperbacks.
Factoid–the first mass-produced commercial paperback was Lost Horizon published in 1939. I think I agree with Maria. What’s inside the covers is the main thing.
Both. Paperback for reading in bed: hardback for reading in my recliner. ???
Paperback

Hardcover for aesthetic purposes, but you can’t beat a perfectly floppy paperback.
Paperback for me.
Depends on what the author’s collection is already on my shelf. I have authors I collect only HBs for and authors I only collect paperbacks from. If it’s a book I’m not sure about paperback.
I love paperback but for convenience I use my kindle and audible.
Paperback. I can buy MORE books!
Hmm, controversially I’ve got to go with neither…I’m a total Kindle convert! ?
I don’t think I’ve ever read a regular paperback (large soft covers are an exception).
I prefer hardbound but if the book is a little pricey, I will purchase paperback.
Doesn’t matter to me. Hardbacks are special though and especially if they are signed first editions. Love it when that happens.
Paperback
Both
Paperback, def not electronic, nothing beats the smell of books…
Both it doesn’t matter to me, bcuz its the story in the book I am reading.

Whatever’s cheapest
I prefer to read paperback, but to have hardback on my shelves. Hah. I buy them in whatever form I find them, though, so I have a mix.
Hardcover 🙂
Hardcover
Whatever I can find cheapest for a particular book (includes kindle as well).
Except usually I don’t do e-books. Unless they’re very very cheap.
Hardback

I don’t discriminate. Paperback, hardback, ebook and audiobook… love them all. ?

Kindle and Hardback. I only buy hardback when it is a)my absolute favourite b)signed copy from a writer I like c)antique books
Hardback if better for my hands my hands suck as it is.
I LOVE hardback books, but I do love paperback as well, they’re lighter and cheaper so they’re easier to take in my bag, but hardbacks for home and anywhere I’m not planning on walking far ?
Paperback are cheaper but if I can’t wait to read it, I buy the hardback.
Usually paperback, but with my favourite writers occasionally hardcover.
Cheapest used version in good shape.
paperback … mass paperback if possible
Hardback on my shelf, but paperback in my hands.
Either just not a fan of mass market
Both.
Either. Or, my Nook.
My kindle. I love the smell of books, but like that I can slip my kindle in my purse and take it anywhere
Of these two choices, hardcover. Overall, ebooks. I have Cerebral Palsy, and have trouble holding hardcovers, especially when it’s a huge book. For example, The Century Trilogy and The Kingsbridge Series by Ken Follett.
Paperback because they’re cheaper. But I love the look of hardbacks and if I could afford it I’d buy all my books in hardback.
Paperback. It is not that painful when I drop it on my face, unlike hardbacks. Hahah
Yes
Depends on the book.
because of my vision I prefer Kindle now because I can enlarge the print… When reading print books I can only read for about 5 to 10 minutes before I start to get a headache… With my Kindle I can read for hours or until of Kindle dies without getting a headache
Hardback if I have a choice
Just so it is a real book, I don’t care.
It’s a matter of personal preference, cost, and what’s available.
Both
Hardback!!
paperback better to fit in my purse but if I have to I will do a hardcover. I use the library so it’s what is available. if it’s new or what not
Either one…just have to have something to read!!!!
doesn’t matter. but paperback is cheaper and easier to tote around and to read in bed. but if I want a book that’s only out in hardcover….
New age question: paper or kindle?
Whatever is available at the library an when purchase them from Ollies or yard sales. But I like paperback to take with me on the go and can read both will at home. As the new age I tried tablets but didn’t like because I like the feel of actually holding the psychical book. Audio books I can’t concentrate and keep the information straight.
Both
I buy both (when I can afford it). Paperback to read over and over and hardback to get signed and admire 🙂
Hardback.
Hardback just cause I’m clumsy and I have dogs that like to chew
Kindle
Paperback – I love collecting books and they are cheaper than hardback.
When I’m sitting (bus/train/bench) it’s a book, when I’m walking/standing, it’s an audiobook, and during the night, it’s my Kindle.
Depends on the author. For the authors I collect, hardback. For the ones I read but don’t collect paperback. Also, I agree with @Clarence. If you drop it on your face while reading in bed it doesn’t hurt as bad ?
Paperback
I’d love to buy them all in Hardcover but it’s just too expensive, so I usually end up with the Paperback ?
Hardback
I prefer paperback due to price and size
I like hardback as the txt is biger so its easy on the eye and i can read longer before my eyes get tierd.but im happy with paperbacks too..
I like the way hardbacks look on a shelf, but it’s easier to hold paperbacks for long periods of time. I prefer digital and audio books personally. I buy hardbacks if it’s a book I love and will eventually reread. If I buy a physical copy, it’s usually paperbacks.
Preferably paperback however I don’t mind a hardcover.

Prefer Hardback, but have gladly read many paperbacks
Hard cover
Love the heft & enjoyment of a hard or soft cover book, cannot curl up with plastic ???
Both
It doesnt matter to me. As long as I can read.
Whatever is legible.
Both
Hardback unless paperback is only way the book comes
Paperbacks are easier for me to handle.
Same
Paperback until my hands say so, arthritis calls the shots.
Both have equal pros & cons for me. But I will say paper over eReader!
Agreed!
both! I have a wide variety!
Paperbacks are cheaper, but at my age hardback is better. Print is larger, easier for me to read.
Yes
Hardback I don’t much like how the paperbacks get creases from reading
