Maybe I should ‘splain. My eyes tire pretty quickly and easily – it’s one of those events of older age that I hadn’t anticipated. On my Kindle Fire (that I still use and love), the extent of brightness and the variety of font options and sizes was vastly more limited than what is possible with the Oasis. I can do wonderfully bright with wonderfully clean, bright large print and spend many, many hours reading, with no eye fatigue. It’s glorious! So when folks (regularly) ask that question of books vs. e-readers, I have to say there is no comparison. Of course I love reading the actual book! But I am so very thankful that I have the Oasis to help maintain my level of reading pleasure and joy. There is no comparison.

I heard a Doctor speak on macular degeneration and he suggested e-readers for all the reasons you give.

It has a soft white reading screen that’s easy on the eyes, fully adjustable for font size and brightness AND it plays Audible books. Yes, you may need it. Baring that, the tried and true Paperwhite is cheaper and great to read on, even without the extras.

I already own the paper white and adore it , but the oasis has that beveled edge that just seems easier to hold and I LOVE the push buttons for page turning on the side , I read laying down ( one handed) a lot and that would be so convenient! Plus what girl doesn’t like that it’s water proof !! I can finally take it in the bath or pool with me !!

Marilee

@Nikki I don’t know that I’d want to test the water proofness. yikes.

Plus it has a two year warranty so should the waterproofing not actually work they will replace it ?

What’s the difference between Oasis and Paperwhite?

Oasis has a brighter display, longer battery life, higher resolution, and waterproof. Also much pricier.

Think I’ll keep my Paperwhite, I’m emotionally attached to it!

@Catarina Me too, my wee baby!! 😉

I have the paper white and adore it but I want the oasis because of the beveled edge ( easier to hold ) and I love the idea of the push button to page turn ( can do it one handed ) and I do love the idea that it’s waterproof so I can finally read in the bath or pool

@Nikki yeah me to if I really like the book

Leah

I justify it that with how much I save on Kindle books (I never spend more than $3 on my books). So I eventually make up that cost of the Kindle over buying new books otherwise lol.

The voyage is pretty awesome too if waterproof isn’t a necessity
