John Sandford’s Pretty Series or Virgil Flowers Series, you get crime, a little romance not too much though, they are suspenseful and funny. There are a ton of books in the series there are several reoccurring characters.
I love Linwood Barclay, his books are good! I just read The Accident and gave it 5 stars! He’s a lot like Harlan Coben who is also good

Sophie Hannah’s Spilling CID series. The earlier ones are the best. Later titles are hit or miss for me.
@Beth, I agree. I think Lynnwood Barclay is a bit creepier. P. T. Deutetman. Is also wonderful and gets weird.

I haven’t seen anyone recommend Dexter. Loved the books, audio books and tv series.
