But…..He wrote An abundance of Katherine’s…which was a book they read! ?

1
Ergene

I know he wrote that, so I’m advising them on future picks. His books just really annoy me.

2
Andreia

Me too! And I’ve spent a few days reading 5-6 of them, to make sure I didn’t choose the worst of his books. Not my type of stuff at all.

1
Ergene

His characters have unique perspectives that he doesn’t understand. And his writing is so emotionless he tried to make an impact with death but even then I don’t feel anything :/

JillQuestion author

Nancy Cocks it was my least favorite of his books- they wanted to read one of his and that was the only one none of them had read.

JillQuestion author

The girls love him, he is from Birmingham where we are but I only let them pick one per author.

Jessica

The Nowhere Girls….I forget the author, but it’s newish and very timely during the #metoo movement.

I would suggest something that does not psychologically mess w any survivors of abuse like Atonement has the potential to.

Based on the titles you’ve listed I would highly recommend “Everything Beautiful is Not Ruined” by Danielle Younge-Ullman. It was shortlisted for the Governor General’s Award for YA fiction this year in Canada. I read it and met the author Danielle. My book club is reading it and Danielle is coming to our meeting to take part in the discussion. One of my friends was reading it on vacation and sent me a text telling me she was sitting by the pool crying as she finished the book and that she loved it. From what I’ve heard, all of our book club members that have read it have loved it. It would be great for a teen book club, especially if you’ve read All the hate u give. A somewhat disturbing event does happen so I wouldn’t recommend it for tweenies. Hope this helps! Let us know what you decide!
