The whole series is a story of marriage. The first book takes a twist near the end that’s pretty horrible. But that horrible event is critical to the rest of the story. I thoroughly enjoyed the books. Great writing, and the research is outstanding.
I wanted to love it – Scotland, time travel, medical lore, what’s not to love? – but there were big elements that really didn’t work for me and I was disappointed.
My thoughts are – put it DOWN. This is pure D trash. Rape as entertainment, terrible stereotypes of everything that can BE stereotyped – men, women, “the past,” nationalities. This is just pure trash. There are sooooooooooooooooooo many books on this fine planet, don’t spend your time here. 🙁
When first recommended by a family member, I didn’t think it would be something I’d like. I’m more of a mystery story person. I bought the first book and didn’t try to read it for a year. Finally cracked the book open and I was swept away. I’ve read them all and I enjoyed them all.
I’ve read the entire series four times. It makes it very difficult to move on to something else. I find the characters and storyline riveting. Love, love, love!!!

Don’t give up before the first 180 pages. It may feel slow but it all matters later. And, then it gets GOOD.

I loved the mix of history and romance. I learned a lot about Scottish history from it and the tv show is superb
