I have just finished it. I felt the same as you but it improves once Lisbeth is introduced. I ended up really enjoying it and am now reading the 2nd instalment.
It took me over 100 pages to start enjoying it. once i got past those first 100 pages I really enjoyed it. The 2nd book in the series I loved and the 3rd one i DNF’d. I dunno how far you are into it but if you aren’t at least past the first 100 pages I say keep going. if you’re further then that it might just not be for you. 🙂
The beginning is a bit boring but it gets better. I’ve re-read all three books twice and listened to the audiobooks as well! Some of my favorite books. The last book, The Girl in the Spiderweb not so much ☹️
I’ve tried starting it 2 or 3 times and haven’t been able to get into it. It’s still on my list to try again though. Maybe I haven’t gone far enough yet.
@Amy I liked them all but I agree that the 3rd one had a few faults. I thought the court scenes were great and most things concerning Lisbeth but I thought there were a couple of needless subplots. Overall I loved all 3 though.
It’s well worth the effort, it’s a fantastic series, not a light read by any stretch of the imagination but if you like clever multi layered stories, you’ll love it.
absolutely loved it but it took some time getting used to all the names and the writing style…once I did I stayed up late reading every word and cold not wait to read the other two!
You really need to get through at least half the book before it gets good. The first half is a lot of character building and plot that really drags on. Once you get past that it gets really good
I read the first book. It gets long and you want to put it down and it picks up and you enjoy it than long again. Didn’t want to struggle with the next two I have them maybe some day
I liked it but the writing style was clunky and overly factual, given that it was written by a journalist trying his hand at fiction. I would recommend finishing though because despite the sometimes dry and clunky stylings of the work, the story does get really interesting and makes some great points about the treatment of women in Sweden.
I loved it. Could not put it down, and then devoured the other two Stieg Larsson books as well. I have not read the David Lagercrantz ones, and have mixed feelings about these, but will probably read at least one of them at some time. Loved the depth of the storyline, and the suspense.
Im the same way. I know he started the 4th before he died but i have a hard time coaxing myself to pick it up. I guess i loved the first three so much i dont want to ruin it
it takes about a third of the way through to really start going from what I remember. which is a lot to ask for, for such a long book but I thought it was worth it. I read the trilogy in high school in like 2 weeks.
The beginning half is a lot of backstory/business/family history that becomes important but it also makes it hard to get into. But man, once the story picks up, it’s great! All the other books in the series do not take long to get going, just this first one. Lisbeth is one of my favorite literary characters ever.
First 3/4 chapters are hard going but once you get into it, it’s worth it
I have just finished it. I felt the same as you but it improves once Lisbeth is introduced. I ended up really enjoying it and am now reading the 2nd instalment.
I gave up on it just couldn’t get into it. Had not quit a book in forever gave it to page 156 and said forget it
Must say I enjoyed them all (or were there just 2?!)
There were 3 originals and two have been added since the author died
@Julie Thanks. Must have been the first 3 I read
I’ve loved them all! Reading them just makes me want more ?
Keep going. You will love it
Great books
Ughhhh haha
Keep going! Takes about the first 100 pages or so to get into.
I really liked this book
It took me 3 attempts. It’s worth it
Keep going. First but is slow then it’s amazing.
I couldn’t finish it!
Keep with it it is worth it
I quite liked the first 3, not read the newer ones
It takes a verrrrry long time to get in to it, but once you do it’s amazing. Power through.
It is a bit hard going, but worth it in the end !
I agree, it takes a wee while to get into, but well worth it!
Its next on my list
That’s too bad….I loved the all. Hopefully it will ‘click’ for you.
I’ll give it a bit more
One of my favorite series books. They can be difficult to read but so worth it
Keep reading!
Yes keep reading very very good. And the film is good.
Gave up
One of my favorites
It took me over 100 pages to start enjoying it. once i got past those first 100 pages I really enjoyed it. The 2nd book in the series I loved and the 3rd one i DNF’d. The second one is the best in my opinion followed by three and one.
Just need to get used to the names, I had to keep going back but its well worth it
Keep reading, it’s great!
I really struggled to start off with, it was well worth sticking with it X
@Carly oh really??? You didn’t skip any of the pages then? Interesting…
First 100 pages is slow, it gets sooo good!! Don’t give up! One of the best series I’ve ever read.
I really enjoyed it once I got over the long difficult names!
I could never get into it
Loved her
The beginning is a bit boring but it gets better. I’ve re-read all three books twice and listened to the audiobooks as well! Some of my favorite books. The last book, The Girl in the Spiderweb not so much ☹️
It does get better if you keep reading.
I couldn’t finish either.
The series was great.
I didn’t like it at first-I think I didn’t like the character but keep reading it and she gets better.
Keep going it is brilliant ?
Great books great films
I didn’t enjoy just wasn’t for me
Keep going it really is great.
I loved the first three. Are the final two just as good?
Keep reading. Do not be put off by names. Call them simple names like Jim and Jane and read on.
It is very good!
I could not finish no matter how hard I tried.
Stick with. The first part is boring but then it’s great
I liked 2:of the series. What are the last 2? Haven’t read them.
It takes a while to get into it. Keep going
I’ve tried starting it 2 or 3 times and haven’t been able to get into it. It’s still on my list to try again though. Maybe I haven’t gone far enough yet.
Oh! I loved it!
I tried it – couldn’t finish. If a book takes that long to become a good read It’s not worth it ??♀️
Very true!!!
I have really bad OCD with finishing books.. so eventually I will have to finish the series or I’ll drive myself nuts ???
I gave up, i struggled with the names too much. For once i loved a movie more than the book
I loved the first two. The third was really hard for me to get into. Actually, I’m not sure i finished it.
@Amy I liked them all but I agree that the 3rd one had a few faults. I thought the court scenes were great and most things concerning Lisbeth but I thought there were a couple of needless subplots. Overall I loved all 3 though.
The first 75-100 pages were torture. It’s worth pushing through.
Stay with it. You’ll be glad you did.
I could never get into it either.
You really have to get past the first 80-90 pages…then it’s great!
I couldn’t get into it either…
It’s well worth the effort, it’s a fantastic series, not a light read by any stretch of the imagination but if you like clever multi layered stories, you’ll love it.
It’s intense…. very dark but very well written
I love love love the Scandinavian noire genre. It’s so complex and clever!
I didn’t really like it, but finished it and read the 2 nd in the series.
This was one I had to start a couple of times, after the first few chapters I was utterly hooked.
Loved it
I did not enjoy it at all
I did not enjoy it at all
absolutely loved it but it took some time getting used to all the names and the writing style…once I did I stayed up late reading every word and cold not wait to read the other two!
It takes some time, but it’s worth it!
Too many characters for me, too complicated
You have to get through the first 25% I think. Once you do, it is a great book. And you really do need all the information or the book to make sense.
I didn’t finish it. And that doesn’t happen to me very often.
Stick with it! I struggled to start with but the ending is worth the struggle and the next two books are phenomenal x
It gets so much better!!!
I thoughht the trilogy some of the best books I’d ever read. Good job we’re not all the same isn’t it!
I only made it a few chapters
I preferred the film, the one with the Swedish sub titles
The US version was good, but the Swedish ones were great. I prefer the books though
I loved that series. I have the 4th book from the other author but havent read it yet!
It’s hard to get into. It gets better.
Best ever read. Love them all
Loved it!
I’ve heard mixed feelings about this book.
I didn’t like it either… but finished it anyway x
It took me awhile to get into it but I ultimately enjoyed it and am glad I stuck with it. Haven’t read the rest of the books yet though.
I hated it. Just wasn’t my thing.
This are great books that expose a sad/hard reality..
Keep going
Stick with it one of the best set of books ever
It gets so good.
First part really hard going but once you get into it excellent book
I didn’t enjoy it. I have the next book in the series sitting unread on my shelf.
I loved it!
You really need to get through at least half the book before it gets good. The first half is a lot of character building and plot that really drags on. Once you get past that it gets really good
I read the first book. It gets long and you want to put it down and it picks up and you enjoy it than long again. Didn’t want to struggle with the next two I have them maybe some day
Omg i lovede Them, But i am danish so i Think it could be that.
Loved it
Loved…tough subject matter but you have to keep reading!
Keep going, I promise it gets better!!
Maybe not for you. I personally loved the series
I have tried it a few times and not managed to get in to it. So I had to give up.
I liked it but the writing style was clunky and overly factual, given that it was written by a journalist trying his hand at fiction. I would recommend finishing though because despite the sometimes dry and clunky stylings of the work, the story does get really interesting and makes some great points about the treatment of women in Sweden.
Loved it too
Watch the movie, I did’nt like the book either.?
Loved it…
I couldn’t get into it
The whole three books, the trilogy were amazing
I couldn’t get into it.
I wasn’t that keen either. Read it and the second one but gave up shortly into the third one
The first hundred or so pages really dragged but I’m glad I stuck with it because the rest was great
Loved it. Better than movie
The sweedish movie is just like the book. Much better than the US version if you can do sub titles. Its much longer too
I loved it. Could not put it down, and then devoured the other two Stieg Larsson books as well. I have not read the David Lagercrantz ones, and have mixed feelings about these, but will probably read at least one of them at some time. Loved the depth of the storyline, and the suspense.
Agree absolutely
Im the same way. I know he started the 4th before he died but i have a hard time coaxing myself to pick it up. I guess i loved the first three so much i dont want to ruin it
I didn’t care for it either.
I saw the movie it was good
I’ve been hearing lots of negative and positive things about it. I will read it cause I want to see for myself if I like it or not.
And we have almost all of them lol mel
One of my favs. Stick with it
It took me awhile to get into it but I got hooked about 1/4 of the way in. Loved it!
What is everyone reading at the moment? I need some inspiration
I hated it
Molly Ann and Angela Young you guys made my night. All of my friends thought it was great and I thought I was the only one. ?
I hated it too.
i hated it too
Stick with it all of them are fantastic
it takes about a third of the way through to really start going from what I remember. which is a lot to ask for, for such a long book but I thought it was worth it. I read the trilogy in high school in like 2 weeks.
I couldn’t watch the movie…bleh
yes the book is so much better
Still sitting on my shelf
Give it a chance. Slow start, but it takes off and you won’t want to put it down?. After this, read the trilogy.
Don’t give up! I almost did that but am so glad that I kept reading.
The movie is so good
I didn’t care for it.
I think it’s better as an audio book- great reader, seems easier to understand
I hated the film so have never considered opening the book!
Meenakshi Walia my TBR pile is so big already, that this one won’t be added to it! To be fair, I have been told that the book is better than the film.
I’ve tried this one this year and I couldn’t bare it… and I’ve got sooooo disappointed. I always wanted to read it. But I’ll try again, sometime…
I didnt finish it either
I loved it. The books are so much better than the films even with my man crush Daniel Craig in.
It takes time…. Once you get far enough you will love it
The beginning half is a lot of backstory/business/family history that becomes important but it also makes it hard to get into. But man, once the story picks up, it’s great! All the other books in the series do not take long to get going, just this first one. Lisbeth is one of my favorite literary characters ever.
you have to read about 80 pages at one time…to get into it, then it gets good and makes more sense
I loved the original 3 books in the series, I must say they are different though.
It does start out slow and the Swedish cities names do not help, but it is well worth it. Keep going!
