Started reading girl on a train today and I have to say I am a little disappointed in it so far. Am I the only one who feels this way?

No, you’re not. Although it rec’d rave reviews from some places, it was also panned from others. It’s one of those perplexing, love/hate books.

No. Did nothing for me. The ending was just silly.

I read about 33% and put it down, picked it up after Christmas and finished it off as I wanted to watch the film, thought it was ok doesn’t deserve the rave reviews in my opinion but everyone’s views are different and I’ve loved books others have really disliked

I did finish it, unlike Gone Girl.

I’ll keep going a bit longer but doubt I will finish it

I always finished a book, but not now. If I am not enjoying it I move on to something else.

I actually loved the book and then the movie. But I totally understand. It’s like The Girls by Emma Cline. I had read rave reviews and though I finished it, I hated it. Different strokes for different folks. ?

1

Sue

Very disappointed took a while to get into it as it keeps chopping and changing from each character too frequently .

We wouldn’t go to see the film as it was set in USA! Not in keeping with the book at all

1
Tracy

That’s why I didn’t fancy it Trudi

1
Trudi

Books and films take on a different perspective when you know where they’re set, don’t they?

0
Tracy

Exactly, I live in Essex and loved the early Tania Carver books which were local to me

0
Trudi

Peter James and Graham Hurley for me, same reasons.

I did enjoy it but think it suffered from “Gone Girl Syndrome” a good book very much over hyped until I can’t live up to expectations!

Couldn’t stand “Gone girl”

Took me 3 goes to actually read Gone Girl and I did end up enjoying it but was definitely massively over hyped. Sharp Objects by the same author was much better.

Trudi

Haven’t read that one, I’ll look out for it. Thank you

I can’t believe i wasted an hour and a half watching the film and wondered what all the hype was about…. Took me several days to realise I watched “Girl on a train” not “The girl on a train”. Wasn’t that impressed by the correct film either!!

I haven’t watched it yet but will not now this is a British book . Why do they do this!

0
Mary

I know I find it so frustrating!!

0
Kerry

I did enjoy it but found another book written in a similar way by a different author which was much better but hasn’t had even half the publicity. Haven’t seen the film yet. I think girl on the train was def a word of mouth success like fifty shades although I haven’t read any of those or seen the films. I can’t see the actor who plays the guy as anyone other than the psycho in The Fall. The other book was The woman in the woods by @Louise

It’s infantile garbage. The marketing budget fabricates a phoney social consensus. That’s how crap like TGOTT floats to the top.
