Not exactly suicide of a loved one but the book Magic Kingdom: For Sale, Sold by Terry Brooks has a character who is contemplating suicide at the start of the novel.

Danielle Steele’s true story about her son’s suicide. I think it was called His Bright Light

Reconstructing Amelia and Inheriting Edith. The latter is profound. A page turner

Beach Music by Pat Conroy is one of the most touching works of fiction that I’ve ever read. It begins with the haunted end to a perfectly worthwhile life. Through the tragedy that has befallen the main character, we have an example of how WE might grow through our own personal tragedies.

I does tug at the heart strings!

Pat Conroy weaves his narrative so eloquently. With ALL of his works he can bring one to one’s knees, rending the heart to weeping, while bringing the reader to soar in the triumph of life!

Prince of tides is also wonderful! Love Conroy!

THAT was the first of his novels that I read. Of course, I was hooked after that, though I don’t think that the film did the work justice at all! The story was so rich with imagery and the gritty inner workings of “real-life”.

I am always unhappy with adaptations it seems!

Truly there are few adaptations that honor the effort and talent of the authors from whom they draw their the framework for their films. Mario Puzo’s The Godfather as directed by Scorcese was an excellent adaptation!

I saw a 20/20 segment about suicide and they mentioned this book. I read it and thought it was good. I don’t know if that’s what you’re looking for or not.

Thank you all. Not sure what I’m looking for. I once read looking for Alaska and that doesn’t even come close to the feelings I’m feeling right now. It’s as close as I’ve ever read yet so far from capturing the true emotions of losing someone close in this way

I read the book and watched season 1. It was very insightful.

A book that I could relate to and thought dealt with suicide of a family member in a very honest and brave way is All the Wrong Places by Philip Connors. In the book Mr Connors tries to find answers for and a way how to live with the pain caused by his brother’s suicide. It’s very moving and I didn’t think I could relate as much to it as I did, but I had experienced a lot of the same things that he had gone through (the importance of the autopsy, the ‘guilt’, the pain). It brought up many feelings that I had stored away in order to survive but it also helped me. I wish you a lot of strength and I hope you have friends and family who support you.

Sometimes it’s to hard to read when I’m totally depressed. It’s weird but it’s like I dont want the book to feel my feelings. Weird huh. I like to be all in when I read. I cant be that when I’m depressed. Perhaps veg on the couch and watch 13 reasons why or some of the other books suggested that have been made into movies. Just grab a blanket, coffee or tea, some light cookies, and watch these shows. No effort required on your part.
