@Stephanie same!! I’ve had a bad few days and honestly considered starting the again…even though I just read them a few months ago. I miss those characters as if they were real.
I can only narrow it to 3 Armada by Ernest Clyne, the evolution of Claire a Jurassic world novel and this is going to hurt a secret diary of a junior doctor by Adam Kay
Probably “They Promised Me the Gun Wasn’t Loaded” the second book in James Alan Gardner’s The Dark vs Spark superhero satire series. Though I did also read Jade City, which was quite good as well, if much more serious, haha.
So this year was pretty much the first year I’ve read fantasy. It’s been a great year. ? Starting with all 16 of Robin Hobb’s Realm of the Elderlings series. Red Sister and Grey Sister by Mark Lawrence (and the short story Bound) were a big surprise in how awesome they were. Both of Rothfuss Kingkiller books. I know people get down on him but I don’t care. They are some of the best books I’ve read. So many great books and mostly recommendations from this group. Thanks everyone!!! Hope 2019 is even better.
Re-reading the “Obsidian Mountain” trilogy, and the “The Enduring Flame” trilogy from Mercedes Lackey and James Mallory. Also enjoyed re-reading the first two books in the “The Dragon Prophecy” trilogy by the same authors. All are very good reads and I recommend them highly.
Definitely Battle Mage by Peter Flannery. Some other greats like Book of Negros and Elenor Oliphant all with MJS stuff but Battle Mage took the cake hands down
Wow. So many books added to my “to read list” and it was already long ?
I really enjoyed reading (rereading really) the Kingkiller Chronicles and the Stormlight Archives. I’m currently working through the Gentlemen Bastard series and although i didn’t love the first book, the series as a whole is growing on me.
I dove into a lot of scifi this last year and really enjoyed it, but I’m looking forward to veering back into the fantasy realm in 2019. Cheers for all the great book ideas in this thread! Definitely starting the Broken Earth trilogy next. Loved reading the Thousand Kingdoms trilogy several years back, so I’m glad I was reminded of such a fantastic author!
Ooh so many great recommendations! Thanks guys you’ve added to my growing tbr list! This year I got back into reading after not reading much due to school – and read 20 books. It is hard to pick a favorite! I actually read the name of the wind twice because it is so beautifully written. But, I think my top read is the Darker Shade of Magic trilogy by VE Schwab, it was just such a fun series and everything tied together so nicely at the end.
I read the Red Rising trilogy, which I’d been putting off forever. Trying to delve more into Sci-fi and it absolutely blew me away. I immediately reread them. Currently holding off on Iron Gold until Dark Age comes out this year.
I don’t read as much as I’d like. Just finished Good Omens, which was quite good and funny, though not classic fantasy. I read Mistborn and the Well of Ascension this year, and they maintained my interest enough for me to want to read the next one. I read the first Black Company book, which was pretty good and interesting.
Ready player one, the Meg, rangers apprentice
Scythe and the chalkman
I also really liked scythe
The Winds of Winter
The Dragons Blade trilogy.
James Acaster’s classic scrapes, the fifth season.

Oathbringer, Plague of Gaints, Edgedancer, Head On, Seveneves, Skyward and a few more that I can’t think of right now lol
You’re probably typing as it pops in your head the same way i do, but in case, edgedancer before oathbringer.
@James yeah Edgedancer came first but I was doing it more in order of how I liked the books. I liked Edgedancer but I loved Oathbringer

@Lauren it’s a bit of a GoT rip off to begin with, but comes into it’s own later on. Not as complicated either.

I also read kingkiller this year – absolutely beautifully written. I’ll just stay Cautiously optimistic about a completion to the series!
I’d love to dive into some Robin Hobb. I’ve got the Farseer series sitting on my shelf.
@Tori you won’t regret it.
The fifth season, by Jemisin
Wheel of time not quite finished yet
Probably the Dwarves trilogy
The broken earth series
Sara j mass. Throne of glass series. Hands down, every year.
Loved Robin Hobb’s Farseer and Tawny Man trilogy and have just read S. Shannon’s ‘Bone Season,’ which was also great.
Kings of the Wyld by Nicholas Eames ?
Re-reading the “Obsidian Mountain” trilogy, and the “The Enduring Flame” trilogy from Mercedes Lackey and James Mallory. Also enjoyed re-reading the first two books in the “The Dragon Prophecy” trilogy by the same authors. All are very good reads and I recommend them highly.

Patrick Rothuss is such a great author. I just wish he had a few more books to read.
A study in scarlet
The invisible library books and the ancestors books (red sister, grey sister) are smart and good fun
Best Book “The Progeny”
after starting on them 20 years ago, i finally got to read the last WOT. i think i’m pretty happy about how it ended.
All the Birds in the Sky, The Historian, and Slouching Towards Bethlehem
I really enjoyed “Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki” by Haruki Murakami. It’s a very introspective and kind of trippy read.
Name of the wind. Currently on the second.
I really liked Lady of the lake, and A Season Of Storms by Andrzej Sapkowski,
I read the Red Rising trilogy, which I’d been putting off forever. Trying to delve more into Sci-fi and it absolutely blew me away. I immediately reread them. Currently holding off on Iron Gold until Dark Age comes out this year.
