I will read only a real book to me you only read a book when it is held in your hand .and you turn the pages

Personally I like the kindle because I have some nerve pain issues in my arms and it is much easier for me to hold it than it is to hold a large book. Also have some issues with my eyes and the kindle is easier for me to see. I still love real books but I don’t think there is anything wrong with e-books or audio books

@Cassie nothing wrong if people such as you need it it is great for you .I can.t read with out glasses my self .

0
Cassie

@Percy The phrase “people such as you” is ridiculously offensive. It’s still a book, get off your high horse.

1
Percy

Cassie Zehring sorry was not trying to be offensive.and it is not a book it is words from a book

1
Cassie

@Percy Mansplain me harder, Daddy.

0
Leanne

Ignore her Percy, your comment didn’t come off offensive to me

0
Cassie

@Leanne It’s offensive when someone comes in and gives you permission to have a disability. If you’ve never been in that position then I’m very happy for you

I love physical books but I can’t read those in the dark when my 4 year old insists on snuggles at bedtime. So, for that reason I also equally love my Kindle Paperwhite.

After using a kindle when I went back to a paperback I found it rather cumbersome and kept losing my page – although I do miss that wonderful feeling of opening a brand new paperback now!

Feels the same, I have mine in a case so I open and close it like a book, never really think about it, I’m too engrossed in my reading.

I like both. real book for the feel and ease of backing up. I like Kindle for looking up words, and the ability to make the print larger.

I did at first, but now I struggle with real books. They can be awkward to hold, and bulky to carry and store.

My house is so much tidier without 25 book cases too ?

I like both, they have different uses and different strengths. For traveling, nothing beats a Kindle. It can be nice to get higher on a wait list or no wait list for a eBook copy over a hard copy at the library. But nothing will replace the feeling of a physical book in my hands and my absolute favorites on my shelves. Moving also a point for Kindle. Hence, only the absolute favorites on the physical shelf.

Whichever is fine for me…. Although I’ve noticed that larger books don’t seem that intimidating on a kindle as they do as a physical copy. For those that find large books intimidating, I’d suggest using a kindle

@Brit , I have to agree. I have even found myself trying to press on a book trying to get the definition of a word.

@Greta hahaha!!! I went through a phase where I read a lot of British books. So excited to find new authors (they were sooo funny), but I needed that dictionary all the time!

I’ve been getting over it this month. I actually love using the kindle app on my phone. Fits my hand like a glove. You can put your phone in night mode and it’s not so bad on your eyes. I’m starting to prefer it to paper books now (I would have cringed last month at that statement)

You get over “feel for book” really fast with paperwhite kindle because of the ease and convenience. You will actually end up reading more.

I use my Kindle when I’m out somewhere for portability’s sake. But, just like KOTOR is better on the XBox than my phone, I’d rather feel paper between my fingers when I’m home. Same with comics.

I prefer my Kindle mainly because of instant gratification. I do not have to go to the library to pick up a book. I can just download it when it comes available. That being said the wait lists on physical books tend to be shorter or even non existant.
The first Harry Potter book is a 20 week wait on overdrive but there are physical copies available through the system.

No contest! Books look pretty on the shelf, before the dust and mites get to them….. and they fill the house. But I have hundreds stored on my phone, so where ever I am I have a choice of books with me, no worries about carrying, finding or holding my place. Kindle and Audible everytime!

I have a Kobo Clara and a Kindle Paperwhite, and for at least 9 years, e-readers get the credit for resurrecting my long-dormant interest in reading. I greedily download the free classics at Project Gutenberg, while borrowing and buying more modern books. I find reading a paper book to be a chore these days. But I love reading again, and am thankful for the invention of e-readers.

I don’t. I have a Kindle paperwhite, but I still have quite a few physical books that I read occasionally. Honestly, the feeling of a physical book kind of drives me crazy because the pages dry out my hands. That drives me crazy. Am I alone in that? So because of that, I still prefer the Kindle. Well that and the fact that my Kindle has hundreds of titles and I can read my Kindle in bed while my husband is sleeping and not disturb him. 🙂

1

Febinger

@Cynthia you’re not alone. My hands dry too, hate it!

1

@Febinger That’s a relief that I am not crazy! Ha. That’s why I read more from my Kindle than anything else.

When we packed so many years ago, to move into a house, it was amazing to my husband and myself, not only how many books we had acquired over the years, but how many boxes and boxes we had of books that hadn’t held our interest anymore for a good ten years or more. Yet there we were, still responsible for the care and feeding thereof 😀 So, we donated a great deal of our books with the exception of course, of our special ones.

God. No.

I often look back on my days of physical book reading with joy; fondly remembering the feel of the pages and how I loved the smell of them but I have to say any sense of nostalgia I may have felt vanished completely when my mom loaned me one this week.

I am struggling. Last night, trying to read in bed was a nightmare! Pages kept turning over, I had to keep using two hands and, because my OH was asleep, I had to use a night light… the cheek of it!! ? it’s much nicer when the page radiates its own light.

I don’t know how people do it; even burying my nose in the spine and taking a good whiff couldn’t improve the experience! How did/do people manage under such conditions? ?… bad times all round

@Nat I have to agree. I just read a hard back. My hands hurt from trying to hold it with my arthritic thumbs. I couldn’t look up words in an instant, I couldn’t highlight without marring the page, I had to eat with one hand while trying to hold the book open with the other, and when my Diet Coke sprayed on opening it did not wipe off well!!!!

Yes, I agree. I like to look at the back cover from time to time and also see how many pages left to the end of a chapter.
Advantages of a Kindle is that it is so easy and quick to buy a book. On the other hand, I’m not using my library as I did and that’s a shame!
