So, the book I just started yesterday made me think of this. Do you all like longer or shorter chapters? I prefer short chapters myself

It depends on the chapter. I have encountered some
That were one word. ??‍♀️ I have also read ones that were over thirty pages long. SMH.

When I have breaks, I like to read until the chapter ends of there is a break. Those long chapters can frustrate me.

I like to sneak in some reading now and again too and the long chapters make it hard. I hate stopping in the middle of a chapter.

Yes! That is almost as bad as ending on a paragraph that moves to the next page. I cannot stop reading in the middle of a paragraph.

I prefer shorter chapters. Seems to make me get thru quicker. Psychological perhaps? …

Short chapters for me.

Short chapters, I tend to read at bus stops or hospital waiting rooms and longer chapters can seem a bit intimidating sometimes. I’ve counted pages and thought theres no way I’ve got time to read all that, and then probably read the same amount of pages in short chapters in the same amount of time anyway.
Like @Helen said, its probably psychological.

Short chapters as I don’t like putting a book down part way through a chapter xx

Depends on the writer. If they are overly long winded (I’m looking at you G.R.R.M.) then definitely shorter to breakup the exhaustion of reading. If they have a simplistic writing style then longer. Personally, I prefer something in between. Complicated and fast paced at the same time.

Interesting? As a writer I will say the story line dictates the chapter length, despite the intent of the writer to keep it short, the story takes over and decides for itself whether it is one paragraph or one hundred. On my current manuscript I started a chapter two days ago with the intention of keeping it short, but the story took over, and I finally finished it today….
