Dry and dull? Maybe the fault was in the reader, because there’s so much going on in that book! Not meant to be insulting, but maybe you weren’t trying or decided a classic couldn’t be interesting? I would try it again. Sometimes a book has its own time for each reader, and that must not have been yours, Mike Di Pietro.

I was in “To Kill A Mockingbird” in Enid, OK at our small community theater way back in the mid 90’s!! Had to share – 2nd time this week I’ve thought of that memory! I live in New York now and a couple on FB were going to that same theater tonight!

I read it as a child. I am debating reading Go Set a Watchmen

Rae

I thought “Go Set A Watchman” was really an early draft of a book and read like one, marketed as an actual finished book without the author’s full understanding of what her new lawyer/guardian was really doing.

It was a slow start for me. However, I stuck it out and it picked up a little in the middle but the ending! So glad I read it.

A classic must read, an old favourite. It is important to read it in context though as the N-word is used, a lot. But it has a beautiful, positive message. 🙂

I think the sequel is actually very fitting… I enjoyed it very much no matter the controversies it apparently caused when it came out.

1
Penny

It was actually written way before TKAM.

0
Nicola

It’s not a sequel… It was sent to publishers as To Kill a Mockingbird but she was asked to change it and it became the To Kill a Mockingbird that it is now… Someone in Lee’s family found the manuscript for Go Set a Watchman last year or the year before and sent it off to be published

1
Agnieszka

Still for me it actually WORKS as a sequel.

I know… Heartbreaking but its what kids do nowa days… They have the answer to every thing right at their fingertips with the technology we have today. Its sad that my boys don’t know the feel of books, the new book smell. They have no appreciation for it. They read everything on computers…
