Lisa Gardner, Alex Kava, Kathy Reichs, Steph Broadribb, Erica Spindler, Angela Marsons, M.J. Arlidge, Robert Bryndza, Gerry Schmitt, James Patterson, Robert Dugoni. ?
I just finished this one, and it’s so good! It’s more of a psychological mystery/crime/thriller, of which I have been on a kick lately. The ones published by British authors are great.
I got into the genre because we had a bunch of David Bell laying around which I generally enjoy, I just find his endings a bit lackluster and slap dash(: But I love shows like Law & Order: SVU, Forensic Files, Confession Tapes, Making a Murderer… etc if that helps(:
Fool Me Once by Harlan Coben is SO good!!! His Myron Bolitar series is addicting, as well. David Baladacci is a solid choice. His writing is pretty fast paced/action packed.
Depends on what kind you like—the field is huge. There are police procedurals, cozies, classics. Agatha Christie is always a good place to start, but you may have read those, try Marjory Allingham or Josephine Tey. Jacquelin Winspear’s Maisie Dobbs mysteries are good. John Grisham’s Camino Island is a nice read.

OMG, no one has mentioned Michael Connelly….Harry Bosch & Mickey Haller series. Anything by J A Jance, Johnathan or Fay Kellerman, John Sandford, John Grisham, & Baldacci who’s 1st name escapes me at the moment.
Late to the party and I see a lot of my favorite authors already, but I haven’t seen Linda Fairstein who writes a NYC based series and Julia Spencer Fleming who writes a Maine based mystery series and anything by Kate Flora.
@Alexandra, Preston & Child are great authors..ive read a couple of theirs, about a cop called Pendergast..they have a series, can’t think off hand, but can let you know.
I love the classics like Agatha Christie, Ngaio Marsh, Rex Stout er al, and lighthearted mysteries like Elizabeth Peters, Joan Hess, Janet Evanovich… Plus at least half the names already mentioned in comments.
@Judith I like Ellis Peters too! Elizabeth Peters is a Grand Master, archaeologist, and her Amelia Peabody series is pure delight. If you like intrepid Victorian heroines, armed with wit, umbrellas and unshakeable self-belief, give it a try. ‘Every year, another dead body.’
If you like settings in the SW US, Tony Hillerman’s series featuring Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee are great! The inclusion of Navaho culture and rituals make them unique and very interesting!
