I prefer paper, but when it’s a new book and I’ve read all the others, I will get hardback. Also at B&N they put their hardbacks on sale for 6.95. I will get those hardbacks as well.
I usually reread a lot and I don’t like not being able to bend the words the way I want them so I go to paperback. But every now and then, I get a hardback if I want it to last a while and to look good on my bookshelf and, if I have a collection going with it, I want to keep all of them the same kind, usually hardcover for my collections.
It kills me on the inside when they’re not the same format lol ?
I’m working on a collection of John Green’s books, which I want all to be paperback, but I bought his newest book as hardcover so now I’m slowly dying every day lol ?
Unless my SO drives me an hour away I get half an isle at Walmart and a couple dollar store end racks to pick from so availability has to come first, price and space have some bearing tho.
If it doesn’t come out in paperback and I can’t wait, I’ll get the hardcover. I prefer paperbacks though. I willingly buy hardcovers from Goodwill though. It’s available and only 2 bucks.
Thanks everyone it’s so hard for me to decide …but my husband says eventually he would like to have every book we own to be in hard back he just gets me
I don’t. I get both. As long as I can read the book, I don’t care what type it is.
Same here.
Prefer hardbacks but if paperback is available it’s got to be bigger paperback
I prefer paperbacks because they’re lighter, fit in my purse, and cheaper. However, I do like hardbacks for collection purposes lol
Trade paperbacks
Price and what’s available
^^This
Which one looks prettier, which ones available as sometimes only one is available, and price
Price and availability.
I do more paperbacks because my hands are having a hard time holding large hardcovers..but I do buy hardbacks when they are on for a great sale
price, visual, thickness
Whatever is on sale or used
If it’s a good book -hard back. If it’s one that I use more frequently (like a “goto” for reference ) I get paperback.
I Prefer Hardbacks.
I prefer paperback. Its easier to carry around in my purse, not bulky to handle and the price is right.
PBs are cheaper. Library the cheapest of all.
Price usually decides for me.
Cost
I get both, 20-30 paperbacks and 2-6 hardbacks each order. Oops, sorry. I thought this was an author’s question.
$$$ lol
I used to read paperbacks but since I’ve gotten older I prefer hardbacks

Whatever I find the best deal on. A part of me hates it when a series isn’t all the same format, but the frugal side of me tells it to shut up.
It kills me on the inside when they’re not the same format lol ?

I will upgrade to hardback from paperback if I come across it (I buy 90% of my books at library book sale, its also a matter of what we get, we get.)
That is very true! I usually like to upgrade to hardcover when I want to have it solely on my bookshelf to show to people.
No one sees my bookshelf except my husband, as it is my room (he has his own room for his books).
Unless my SO drives me an hour away I get half an isle at Walmart and a couple dollar store end racks to pick from so availability has to come first, price and space have some bearing tho.
It depends on how much cash I have to throw at my reading habit!
If it has recipes or one I’ll reread.
Price.
Price. Paperback are cheaper.
I prefer hardcovers as I find the print a little larger.
It depends on how I hold the book hardbacks are easier to hold and last longer than paperbacks in my opinion
Price, and paperbacks weigh less. Am reading a 1200 page book. Hate to think how heavy the hard back would be…
Paperback are so much cheaper
If it’s a book I want to keep or display, I’ll get hard cover. If it’s just something to read and move on, paperback or ebook.
My mood. Which is why I have so many of both lol
It all depends on the price and the cash I have!!
If it doesn’t come out in paperback and I can’t wait, I’ll get the hardcover. I prefer paperbacks though. I willingly buy hardcovers from Goodwill though. It’s available and only 2 bucks.
My main reason is that hardcover is too heavy for me.
I get hard covers to give for Christmas. I like paperbacks for me because of prices. I like Kindle and library books too.
I enjoy hardback because the print is bigger.so less eye strain.but im happy with a paperback..
Paperbacks cause they are cheaper.
Cost
Availability of hardback & cost difference
All of them. ??
I love the trade paperback size
I prefer paperbacks.
Trade Paperback every time!
And you are wearing a black velvet coat. Life imitating art? Lovely pic; lovely lady.
In Australia there’s not much choice. I’ve rarely seen hardcover books in stores.
Thanks everyone it’s so hard for me to decide …but my husband says eventually he would like to have every book we own to be in hard back he just gets me
Price and money available at the time. 😉
Either, book should be good.
I personally prefer to read a paperback…if I do wind up with a hardcover I always take the dust jacket off while reading
I do the same some time and then put them back on when I’m reading it
I love hardcover or trade paperbacks. Mass markets just don’t appeal to me, and I don’t think they look good on my shelves.
I prefer paperbacks because they’re cheaper
