Always good to find someone else who wasn’t keen. I ended the book wanting to give Emma Bovary a good talking to!

I would do Uncle Tom’s Cabin and then GWTW, which directly responds to UTC.

Is the language similar to Uncle Tom’s Cabin? I found the Southern language difficult to understand sometimes. I had to keep asking my other half who is an American lol

GWTW has several dialects too but if you followed the movie okay, I would think you will do fine.

Wonderful, thank you.

And if you want to ask the experts, here’s my web page about the author’s home and adjacent GWTW museum. https://authoradventures.org/trails/by-state/georgia/mitchell-margaret/

Madame Bovary is a good choice to follow.

I recently read Gone Girl and I think it has some interesting parallels to Rebecca. The writing style is completely different, but both have women characters who show one face to the world, and another in private.

Are you enjoying Rebecca?

@Erica I began it Tuesday, and yes I am, very similar to the style of David Copperfield of the main person writing in the first person looking back at their life. I am currently in my “Women’s Reading Phase”. That is to say, I began with Jane Eyre, that lead me to Tess of the D’Urbevilles, Emma, Far from the madding crowd etc

I’ve read all of the above but Tess. Are you concentrating on women protagonist mainly or have you looked at women authors? Just curious.
I enjoy reading the classics and have just started Dr. Zhivago.
