It’s worth it. Not all books are equally good or the characters but I enjoyed it to the point I read/am reading the associated spinoffs and prequels

It’s next on my list to read. I felt like I needed a light read so I am going through a couple ya books first.

Definitely a dark brutal read. Not an easy read either but worth sticking with in my opinion.

@Brian actually in the first book when i started it i was like “ what the hells going on?”. but it most
of the series is great but I do remember some parts i didn’t like as much as others, it they were definitely in the minority. I like this series better then Black Company

Great books with great characters. First book is tough to get used to but it’s still good.

One of greatest epics ever written. People seem to find the first book a slog to get through though. I personally thought it was awesome

Watch your brain, that first book is a doozy! Lol! Love everything in the entire mythos. I’m normally a skim-lightly-along reader… I don’t want to work too hard for my entertainment… BUT… this series was worth it Xs 100. I had to read the first book twice before I had a clue. A LOT gets thrown at you in the first book… characters, plots, races, sub-plots, geography, sub-sub-plots, history, sub-sub-sub-plots, foreshadowing, sub-sub-sub-sub-plots, postshadowing, sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-plots, well… you get the point. You can get lost easily even if you pay attention. This is not a lazy person’s story. The author isn’t going to spoon-feed you and hold your hand. It’s not the gentle pablum of most contemporary fantasy. There are dark currents of history and mystery all throughout. There is depth like I’ve never seen in anything else. Take the plunge.

To me it’s the best fantasy series I ever read…but to give you fair warning ⚠️ if you include all the short stories, novellas and novels by Steven Erikson & Ian C.Esslemont there are 32 stories associated with the Malazan series…so you have to be willing to make a full commitment to it…This is a very well thought out and detailed storyline in chronological reading order not a publication release order…Enjoy ?

1.Forge of Darkness
2.Fall of Light
3.Walk in Shadow(not yet written)
4.Dancer’s Lament
5.Deadhouse Landing
6.Kellanved’s Reach(not yet written)
7.Midnight Tides
8.Gardens of the Moon
9.Night of Knives
10.Deadhouse Gates
11.Blood Follows
12.The Lees of Laughter’s End
13.The Wurms of BlearMouth
14.Memories of Ice
15.House of Chains
16.The Healthy Dead
17.The BoneHunters
18.Reaper’s Gale
19.Crack’d Pot Trail
20.The Fiends of Nightmaria
21.Return of the Crimson Guard
22.Toll the Hounds
23.Stonewielder
24.Goats of Glory
25.Dust of Dreams
26.Orb,Sceptre Throne
27.The Crippled God
28.Blood and Bone
29.Assail
30.The God is not Willing(not yet written)
31.Untitled(not yet written)
32.Untitled(not yet written)

30-32 {Witness Trilogy or The Karsa Orlong Trilogy}…Takes place 4-5 years after the end of the 10 book series.

Listen you can enjoy the main 10 book series just fine…I am just saying there’s much more to it if you choose to continue on…It’s a personal choice for each individual reader…I am just trying to be helpful and give other fantasy readers more information about the series as not everyone is aware about how deep it actually goes…
Good Luck ?

Hi Robert, I’m inspired by your list and was wondering whether reading them in this order will make gardens of the moon (and following 9 main books) easier to understand and follow?

Seems very polarizing. People either love it or hate it.

Gave up on book 2 just walking in the dessert for chapters.
Shame I have mates that swear by the series.
