@Andrea I started reading it but too many library books arrived. I bought this one so put it on hold since I try to read the borrowed ones 1st. I think I need to start over. It was great…but I need to begin again. Thanks for recommending it my friend. ? The cover is indeed awesome!
Those are beautiful covers! I think my favorite of the covers is Mansfield Park. Having recently read it I think the girl depicted on the cover is a very good Fanny.
Oh yes. I was surprised & thrilled to learn from TGAR ep 1 that Fitzgerald himself was inspired enough by this cover art to change a part of his text, evidently! Does anyone know what specific part of the novel it was?
Nancy Drew rocks! My favorite is the mystery of the hidden staircase which is number two in the series. I still have my copy from when I was a child and I reread it every once in a while.
I think I needed 46 or so to complete the set when I was reading them throughout the 1960’s, but I only ended up with maybe 32? My favorite was definitely The Mystery of the Moss-Covered Mansion, but loved them all! By the time I was in junior high I had moved on to Agatha Christie. ?
My brother had the Hardy Boys. We read each other‘s books, and tried to outdo each other with completing our sets. I think he won and had the whole set by the time he got out of grade school.
Oh I will have to check out the moss covered mansion! Not sure I read that one. When I was a child the library I went to did not carry Nancy Drew books. Such a tragedy! Which is why I read the secret of hidden staircase over and over and over again because that was the one Nancy Drew I owned. When I got married and moved to another location… That library had the Nancy Drew books! So in my 20s I ended up catching up with all that I missed as a child. I remember the mystery of the 99 steps was the last one that was listed on the book jacket. I have been reading them from the library but occasionally will buy one if it’s the old-school cover. I have nine of the books now. And yes I do re-read them occasionally. They are my fun books!
I just reread Heidi a couple of months ago. It had been a long time. It was so good! I remembered it being good but not quite that good! Loved the description of the Alps, grandfathers hut and Heidi’s love for the mountains. When we got to go to Switzerland years ago I was so excited because of the Heidi story.
Of the three you mentioned The Secret Garden is my favorite as well. Such an amazing book and such wonderful characters. Have you seen the musical? I absolutely love the songs in the musical. Also years ago I saw a ballet production of this book which was also extraordinary. You can’t go wrong with this story… It’s just so wonderful!
Heidi was always my favorite of the three. When my granddaughters were little, they loved it so much they would take turns pretending to be Heidi, Peter, and Clara and I could be the Grandfather! ?
End papers with a map? I’m sold!
Not my favorite book, but this cover always catches my eye! Picture featuring my grandma’s petunias ?
Loveit!
And it’s a wonderful book
Love it and it’s my favorite book!
I suspect that since my late grandmother gave me her copy of this, it comes to mind as one of my favorite covers.

It isn’t just the novel – it has to be the one with the Ernest Shepard illustrations.
