Should I watch movies first or read the books? (Harry potter, lord of rings, Dan brown etc.)

Should I watch movies first or read the books? (Harry potter, lord of rings, Dan brown etc.)
Read the books… ?
@Lisa yyy
Read the books.
Book first
Read the books
Read the books. The movies not capture the substance of the books.
Book first
This should explain it.
Always the book first for me.
Books first
Book first, always.
Movies always leave out the good stuff read it first
Read the books first
You always read the book first!
Watch the movies. There is so much from the books left out for continuity that you’ll be able to enjoy the movies for what they are, without them ruining the books for you
Movies first! You can be disappointed in a movie if you go in w expectations but you’ll never be disappointed by the book 😉
Ditto
Always read the book first!
Watch the movie first.
@Cornelius y
I always read the book then I watch the movie to see how close they follow the book.
Also to see if my view of the characters is the same.
I love both the movie versions of HP and da Vinci code. However lord of the rings I could only finish the first book.
@Jordan why so?
You have amazing books and YOU SHOULD READ IT !! Read !!
It is law that the book is always first. ?
read first
Read the book first, always, for any movie 🙂
Always read the book first!
book at first
Book book book!!!
I always read the book first and then usually don’t enjoy the movie as much or even hate it.
books first!
Read book, then watch the movie. (Repeat depending on the series) Remember to have FUN ????+?
Also don’t forget to snack ??????☕
Obviously the book.
Always book first.
Read the book and don’t watch the movie??
Always read the book first. Movies cut a lot of details and scenes out.
Read first so you could be disappointed by the movies. The books are always better.
Oh always books first!
Books, always the books
Books first for sure!
HP and Dan Brown, read first.
Lord of the Rings can be a slog to read, watch the movies first.
Always books first !!!!!
Books
BOOKS!!!!
Books first!
books and then forget about the movie!
I would say movie before. A movie does not take into account all the book but parts and sometimes it’s adapted so you often realize that there some characters or parts missing. For instance I read The book of theft which I really enjoyed and saw the film after and found out that there was a character missing and, in my opinion, he was important in the book.
Movie first. If you read the book first you’ll be disappointed in the movie.
I always say books first but my best friend always says movies first so it’s really a personal preference.
@Louise she’s right. Movies dont appeal much if you’ve read the books coz they’re always better. Every movie ive liked based on a book is because i had not read the book yet.
@Aash that’s exactly what she says.
Books ? first
Always books first!
Reading a book establishes a direct communication between author and yourself. Your visualization, imaginative and interpretive power improves. Books are like mental stadium and reading is mental exercise.
Wheras as watching movies is punishment in a gas chamber where a director (genius or an idiot) treats you.
@Sheel yeah the reason y I think books should be first is to compare my imagination to that of what the movie depicts
Lets face it. Usually what gets left out comes down to money.
Books
Books
Books books and books always u will know a lot that the movies show
Books
Read first. And when watching remember that not everything makes it from page to screen. Or the writers sprout extra movies that have next to nothing to do with the source material.
Books first.
Books books books!!!!
Books, of course!!
books *_*
Books
Books
books.
Books first
Definitely books first
Books. There is no thought on that!
Books always first
Most books are better than the movie
Books. Understand movies better.
hard to name a movie that is better than the book
Read the books.
Obviously read those books first….those are just amazing
I would read the book first.
Books first. Always!
Book first
Watch the movie first…then read the book! If you read the book first, you’ll be disappointed in the movie because the movie can’t capture what the book can.
Read the book first
Book first. Always. ?
Books
Always the book first.

Once you read the books, the movies are a disappointment

The books are always better! In the Lord of the Rings case it was pretty close though! Those movies were good! 🙂
I read books first for HP. The movies were good, but books are much better.
I watched LOTRs, but haven’t read books yet.
Read the books?
Books first!
Always books first than movies!
In the case of LoTR. the movies helped to read the books, i guess it varies from one person to the next
watch the movies first…if you read the books ,you will get disappointed…wel not for the Lord of the rings, strangely, this is the first case when a movie is better than the books
Well to be honest @John I found them both very boring. Maybe they are just ‘not ‘for me
Books
Books first
Books
Books first…movies later!
Books always first, if you want to enjoy it more.
BOOKS!
Read books first! The you can pick the movie apart ?
I’m all about the books! And if you choose to watch the movies first, still go back and read the books. Like Harry Potter for instance, there is so much more info in the books about some of the characters and the story line..
Books
Books
it depends, i read harry before i saw the movies, i have seen all the Lord of the rings movies but not read them yet, i watched the giver first and just read the book,
I watch the movies first because if i read the books first the movies are a disappointment. Except for Harry potter both are amazing.
Books

Movies first. I prefer to go from less (movie) to more (book). Going from more to less is disappointing to me. I also don’t enjoy the movie as much as I spend the whole time while I am watching comparing to the book, while I still enjoy the book as there is so much more to enjoy that was not revealed in the movie.
I was about to comment that reading should come first as I always do. But what you said makes sense. It’s difficult to enjoy the movie when you know it is missing some things from the book. ?
Watch the movie then read the books because you will find a lot of details in books so movies are like a trailer xD?
I always do the books first. I want my imagination to get into what I’m reading. If I watch the movie first, it ruins that. Then I like to see how what I imagined compares to what they make. Let’s face it, the movies are never as great as the books, but books first is always worth it for me.
@Eliza exactly what I’ve been thinking …I wanna compare my imagination
Books 🙂
sigh! why bother. Find something interesting to read. I read the first book and it was dull dull dull!
I feel like with a great author you get pulled into not only the story but each detailed moment and really grow with the characters. It’s so hard to convey that in films. I try to read the books first. The only movie that helped me understand the books were the Lord of the rings. I struggled reading those.
@Mary lord of the rings r hard to read?
Well for me it was difficult to keep up with whom was speaking at which time. I felt like it was very back and forth with a lot of details. Kind of was an overload for me mentally. I loved the books I just had to make sure I was in a quiet room and re read a lot of chapters lol
Read the books then get angry at the horrible job the movies do
Read
I recommend books first. I never seem to be motivated to finish the book, if I see the movie first.
Definitely, books first.
