Yes! My nephew was 7 when we started reading together the series switching off when he would get tired of reading at a chapter a night. He loved it and at 17 still talks about “reading harry potter with aunt tabi when i was little” as it meant that much. We would finish the chapter and sometimes talk about it and sometimes not depending jow he felt!

Yes! I read them all aloud while pregnant (with my third child) to my husband, our 10 y.o., and 2 y.o. It was great fun and took many weeks. ❤️

The first three or four? Yes. The last three? No. Too mature for a 9 year old imo. The last book Harry is 17 and is definitely on a Young Adult level.

Absolutely. Take a little break in between the books to stretch them out a little bit if you’re worried the later ones may be too scary

Every child is different. I held off with the children and grandchildren until they were 11 but mostly as a right of passage because the books begin when Harry is 11. However, you know your child. If you’ve read them and feel he/she has the maturity, I’d say go for it but be available/accessible to answer questions.

@Kristina I can answer any HP question!! Do you know the Quiz Up app? They have several HP trivia topics. You can play with others around the world. I think you would love it!

I am a fourth grade teacher and I lead a Harry Potter book club. Yes, the 9-10s love it. They can get dark and a little scary as you go through the series.

I was just talking to my (now 23 year old) about the time I read most of the first HP book to him in a day. He was sick and every time I stopped reading he would ask me to keep going. Lol. He was in 1st grade, so about 6.

And so it goes: “Mr. and Mrs. Dursley, of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say that they were perfectly normal, thank you very much…”

Well, it depeds on her maturity level…1-3, certainly. But 4…maybe wait for that one.

Yes. Harry Potter is how I taught my recalcitrant 1st grader to read. I would read until it got interesting and then walk away, telling her I was done and if she wanted to find out what happened she could read it herself. Within months she was reading at a 6th grade level and had developed a love of books. They get darker, but rightfully so. I think 9 is old enough to handle them.
