It’s one of the creepiest books I’ve ever read. I read it right when it came out, and I still can’t shake the ending.

It has left me with that can’t shake it feeling too… I always get the “?” feeling when I think about it

Can’t wait to see what HBO is going to do with it… Amy Adams is going to kill it

It’s my favorite book of Gillian Flynn’s. As others have stated, it is darker than Gone Girl.

Which did get made into a movie but I think it must have gone straight to DVD because I never saw anything about it being in theaters.

1
Amy

It did…i saw it on demand once. I would say the book was better, which is usually my opinion but I have high hopes for the Sharp Objects series.

0
Melissa

Yeah, I started watching it and fell asleep and never got around to finishing it. But I agree, I think HBO will do Sharp Objects justice.

1
Diana

I still can’t shake that “holy crap” feeling at the end of it. Seriously good book.

If it weren’t for this book club, I would never know what books have been made into shows! I just started watching The Five and was thrilled it was created by Harlan Coben, he’s one of my favorite authors. I had no idea Sharp Objects was made into a show.

I listened to it on audio last month. I was excited each day to get back in my car to see what would happen next. However, I found the activities of the young girls to be ridiculously out of place. I found it way too far fetched. That was my only negative of the story. Otherwise, very entertaining & I’m looking forward to the HBO show.

“Gone Girl” took me 1/2 the book to get interested. “Sharp Objects” is a good read, but I really loved “Dark Places”. In my opinion it’s the best of these 3 by Gillian Flynn and the movie adaptation with Charlize Theron did not disappoint!

1
Reply
Amy

Do you think so? I thought she was too tall to play the character and pictured Ellen Page?

2
Micah

Hmmm, I pictured Libby Day as a tough, tainted by life kinda girl which I think Charlize pulled off well.

1
Amy

I get her being tough but I feel like either by the description or who I pictured was smaller like frail looking, tainted definitely. Charlize to me is too tough like in a bad ass way lol. I liked the movie but I loved the book. I feel like they could have given it a little more. I think young Diondra’s casting was perfect though.

2
Kelly

Sharp Objects is my favorite Gillian Flynn book! It was a serious mind twist.

I liked Sharp Objects, hated Gone Girl. I thought Dark Places was her best though.

1

Katie

Really? That was my least favorite of hers!

0
Lauren

Katie Fulton I liked Libby. Camille was kind of just there, and I absolutely hated Amy and Nick. So of the three, Dark Places had the most likable set of characters lol.

0
Amy

I agree, Lauren. I liked the story line of Dark Places much better than Sharp Objects.

2
Amy

But, I will still watch the miniseries on HBO of Sharp Objects. I didn’t watch the movie version of Dark Places because they had Charlize Theron playing the role of Libby.

0
Katie

@Lauren thats so funny to me! i didnt like dark places at all!

1
Lauren

@Amy yeah, I definitely can’t picture Charlize Theron as Libby. Nothing against her, but I don’t see it. I’ll probably try and catch Sharp Objects too.

Makes me so happy reading this thread. Could not figure out why Gone Girl was popular. Unlikable characters and I figured out so early where it was going. The only reason I kept going is I thought – surely there would be a twist, but alas it turned out exactly as I thought…

If you didn’t like Gone Girl, I wouldn’t read Sharp Objects. Gone Girl was twisted, right? Well, Sharp Objects is even more disturbing.

1
Reply
Amy

Agree sharp objects is disturbing and am curious how people will feel when they watch it. It’s one thing to read about it but to see people act it out and there are younger actors needed for the parts involved. Maybe they changed the ending? That was……

Nicole

So true

I just finished Sharp Objects and I enjoyed it! It wasn’t as good as Gone Girl but it’s a fairly quick read so I liked the tempo of the twists and turns.
