Goodbye Days. It came out pretty recently and I’m listening to the audiobook and it’s breaking my heart. It’s kind of like The Fault in Our Stars in that it will probably make you both laugh and cry.

I personally like when a book (or movie) makes me feel something. It doesn’t have to be all happy endings to be enjoyable.

2
Ashly

If someone was thinking of ending their life, I would hope that would be concerning to you. ? Sometimes people like to read sad books, to feel the emotional rush that comes along with it. That person is not me lol.

1
Sandra

I don’t do sad books, well not intentionly ?

Liane Moriarty’s books have a definitive sad streak. I think the husbands secret and truly madly guilty would do.

Yes, that’s what I mean. They are both YA and I think If I Stay is better than Fault In Our Stars. 😉

I’m reading this book now about a young girl who suffered cancer, using her own diary entries etc. It is sad, moving, emotional and comforting all rolled into one book.

All the Bright Places, by Jennifer Niven. I actually don’t like reading sad stories, and started this one not knowing it did not end well. Still enjoyed it though! It’s well written, and although sad, was not depressing.

Apart from all listed above, I would recommend reading “How I Live Now” by Meg Rosoff. Many people criticize this book, but my own Grandma who survived war cried while reading. It means more to me than any Goodreads opinion
