Anything by Charles Martin. My favorite was The Mountain Between Us (nothing like the movie…didn’t show the depth of the characters). It was the first one I read of his a few years ago, but they are all good.

Edwin

Why charles martin??? Few of my friends suggested his books, but i find them just okay, not that great.. what ur take on him as a writer??? And his books as well…

0
Karen

@Edwin I love the brokenness of the characters. Each one draws me in. Over the course of the book you find out why they are broken, yet they have redeeming qualities and continue to strive. I love his twists that he usually puts into the story. I guess he makes my empathy rise and feel something for the characters and others I know in similar circumstances. The books have a Christian redemption theme even though the books are not outright Christian so that might be what is not appealing to you. Or what don’t you like?

0
Edwin

Its not anything i dislike, what i read of his books, Water from My Heart, A Life Intercepted, Unwritten,Thunder and Rain, The Mountain Between Us.. I find the mountain between us is bit moving but not extraordinary.. others I didn’t even complete, but I will join u saying the film didn’t shown anything that book have…

0
Karen

@Edwin So who is your favorite?

0
Edwin

Of Charles Martin? Only the mountain between us is completed; a feel good one, above average.. and if u r asking my favourite among all, it’s Sherlock Holmes Canon!!! By Arthur Conan Doyle…

0
Karen

Oh my yes. I love to read historical fiction, memoirs and Christian fiction, and health books but I am always looking to try something new. The only thing I won’t try is horror/paranormal.

0
Edwin

Me too, never liked the horror that much.. historical, realistic dramas, crime detective fiction, biographies that’s my favourites…

I really like The Magic Cottage by James Herbert. Is it my favourite book? I’m not sure because for me every different mood or state of mind could produce a different favourite book. I think you need a pool of favourite literature into which you can dive…And you’ll emerge cleansed with the right book. Your favourite; for now.

2
Caroline

@Angel it’s a wonderful book. So full of magic and hope ?

2
Angel

Yes! @Caroline, have you read ONCE by him? If not you have to!

1
Caroline

I don’t think I have. I read a lot of his early work. Wasn’t keen on The Rats. But that’s just me. Loved Moon, The Dark, The Fog. It was a close run thing between him and Stephen King at one point. Dean Koontz was the new kid on the block. But Stephen King was prolific. There was always something new. And it was new. Not just another creature feature. James Herbert took a while between books and I think it cost him the horror crown. However, one of my favourite Herbert books is “Fluke”. A book about a dog…

1
Angel

That’s like the only one I’ve never read lol, I read all those you mentioned too, but if you loved Magic Cottage, I think you’ll love ONCE, It’s really good! I want to say similar to cottage..but very different too.
